It more along the line of they want total control over the production of everything, they could do in house animation if they wanted to.
Like Elio costed 300 million, with that kinda money you could start an animation studio that used cels and make like 15 to 20 7 minute episodes with that money.
They inflate production costs so they can funnel the extra money directly into their pockets while artists suffer.
