I genuinely enjoyed Sofia the First more than ANY other "modern" Disney TV series.

I know Cedric/Sofia is the default ship, but I feel like Sofia/Amber/James is cute too.

The show is legitimately competent. It's a good cartoon. Which is very rare for cartoons for little kids, and little girls especially. Wildfire, My Miniature Horse and this are the only good little girl shows to the point where an adult can enjoy them I can name off the top of my head.

sofia was 11 (?) by the time the show ended (the wiki says she was 14 in the elena ending, but there’s no source for that). that’s around the disney channel demographic age, i think. around same age as some other protagonists on the channel like dipper and phineas and shit. i just think it would be cool.

Well, that's not exactly a high bar to cross, OP. I know the immediate kneejerk reaction you're expecting is "woah a preschool show is your favorite modern Disney show? NO WAY!" But in actuality when you asses all the notable modern Disney shows as an unbiased level-headed viewer, it paints a pretty clear picture:

Cedfia is a good ship and I say that as someone who doesn't self insert, they developed genuine care and affection for one another and I want to see them happy. I'm more of an Amber guy anyway.

We've been starved for sincerity in entertainment media for the past 15-ish years, so it's no surprise how refreshing it is to witness something that doesn't fall victim to the whole "everything needs to be a quip, or a one-liner, or sarcastic, or a *wink wink* *nod nod* to the audience" trend.

I really appreciate the traditional "Whimsical Disney" feel the show has in spades. Castles, magic, mythical creatures, princesses, songs, the whole thing really just screams textbook Disney aesthetic. Some might find it generic, but what can I say. I guess I really like that classic vanilla-flavored Disney stuff.

Nah, I think alot of the appeal hinges around her being the age she currently is. And when I say "appeal" I mean for all the primary demographics who like the show, both adults and children. There's a sweet spot for marketing with her current age. I don't think an aged-up Sofia would have the same lucrative potential.

If they wanna make the show's subject matter a little more mature that would be pretty awesome though. Right now it feels "preschool" tier, so moving it up to "Y7" would be a pretty drastic breath of fresh air. After all, something like FiM managed to sell to little girls despite the show targeting a higher age demographic than past MLP generations.
