>>149197847>I'm pretty sure Xa left the company because they wanted to tone down the female sexiness he drawsOther way round. a lot of early artists left at the same time because the pay was shit and wasn't getting any better, power was getting consolidated around one guy and all the motivating projects they'd want to stick around for were being canned to make up for the movie's failure. This resulted in a change of guard that felt that Ankama's productions had problems that needed fixing, including the constant horniness.
And to be fair due to them consistently pitching to funding sources that make shows for actual kids and then making stuff that isn't, they always got into trouble, and that's also a major critical feedback for the dofus movie (WTF I thought I was bringing my kid to a disney summer movie, instead this is violent and perverse), so they can't both want to use kid's show funding and then make young adult animation (and also they've been called out for the last decade on how Sadida are just racist savage caricatures and worked toward changing that, but that means less horny outfits).
But it's kinda funny now they use crowdfunding, which should give them more freedom, the designs are actually more sanitized (but of course that's because crowdfunding is just a small part and the actual funds come from the usual sources). But I also think it's because the new guard just doesn't have the visual design talent of the old (see the whole Dofus 3 debacle).
Thankfully I'm sure they've put Dofus 3 back on track and now again have pleintiful money to fund whatever on their own, right?
...right?
