Didn't stop Rick and Morty which TMS expected it to be their next Ashita no Joe 2 and be as large as Detective Conan.

It barely made back it's production budget and had to get bailed out by Sakamoto Days (which TMS used most of it's budget just to bail out Rick and Morty: The Anime's production since Demarco and HBOMax refused to pay for it to bail it out).

A studio like OLM (who already did some of Bee and Puppycat), Wit Studio or Mappa would easily snatch it up if they were offered I Don't Want To Be A Magical Girl.

Western media is too married to what tropes it has already set in stone to break from them in anything other than indie projects.
Western media will make the 'person builds a dream world to reject reality' story (ala Wandavision) a hundred times, but never where it ends with the person accepts that the dream world is fake and choosing to double down on it rather than reject it ala Homura in Rebellion. They understand the story only one way, the ending to them is baked into the premise, and it will never occur to them that another choice is even possible.
