There's a lot of theory crafting about Archie being shit and that's why Nintendo turned it down, but it honestly likely boils down to Nintendo simply not wanting an American ran comic to begin with because the Japanese side running quality control on it would be a shitshow. They've greenlit a lot of Mario/Zelda Manga's in Japan for instance likely because it's easier for them to communicate with the artists.

not everyone here had the Saturn as a kid. The Saturn era was rough for Sonic fans. Sure there was NiGHTS but it wasn't the same. It was the era of Virtua Fighter and Panzer Dragoon. The one thing the Saturn had going for it was near perfect ports of Capcom fighting games.

Gonna use this thread as an excuse to mention that I've been going through old Nintendo Power comics and man, there's some kino in there. The Star Fox comic would still get certain ideas referenced in later games interestingly enough.
I can only imaging if Nintendo gave a shit about Star Fox. Maybe the sci-fi and space-opera would've been able to keep it grounded and not go into Archie Sonic level shenanigans. Who am I kidding. But I thought it was cool even for a dead franchise.
