*Kills animation for a whole decade*
How did they do it? And more importantly, why did other companies like Pixar copy their style after how maligned the ad was?

im fairly certain it was the advert company hiring animators that where just copying the "pixar" style at the time.

>Force a shitty style and faggot shot on the public for a decade and a half.
>"Why does nobody like our shows or films?"
Gee i wonder.
The normies simply not caring and not paying have done more damage to woke shit than any incel grifter ever could.
And all it took was just not seeing their shit.

I don't get why people compare nu beanmouth pixar to this shitty retarded ad when the character designs almost look nothing alike. If I am being 100% honest, they look more like background characters from an Illumination movie and even their designs look more fleshed out that current pixar.

I can't look at that movie without thinking of that fucking "ultimate gay test" ad that showed up everywhere for a few months and has him in front of a rainbow flag

The point isn't the overt similarity it's the bland corporate friendly indistinct blobs that are devoid of any personality or identity out of absolute fair of turning away even the smallest demographic.

Everyone keeps talking shit about these fucking commercials but the only place I have ever seen evidence of their existence is this board. It's like you fucking cunts are trying to gaslight me.

This commercial was everywhere in early 2021 and became a meme

Never understood this meme. It's literally just one drooling retards that made a webm of an add and suddenly he was the emperor of animation taste and everything he'd compare to that shitty food stuff was imediately sentenced to death. No explanation needed, a million of loyal servant appeared overnight to apply this new paradigm. Incomprehensible.

You know how 2d animation trended towards cheap, lazy puppet rigged animation? It's the same general idea. The "grubhub" beanmouth style of 3d animation is just easier and quicker to knock out. It's not an aesthetic born out of any specific desire, but rather a sort of corporate mandate. It looks modern, takes low skill to produce, and is therefore cheap and appealing to marketing departments.

I can't tell where Grubhub ends and Turning Red begins. The pregnant milkshake woman looks like the could be Mei Lee and Abby's mom.

I could never shake off the impression that the Grubhub ad's character designs and were trying to emulate (perhaps not all that deliberately) the artstyles of early-2000s Sony animated productions rather than those of classic Pixar ones.

Specifically, I found both the emphasis on streamlined shape language, along with the rubber-hose-adjacent depiction of limbs and character movements, to be somewhat reminiscent of the aesthetic approaches typified by 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' and 'Hotel Transylvania', although cheaply executed, as well as a lot more stereotypically Tumblr-esque and plasticky in appearance.

Hotel Transylvania has fairly unique character designs. Dracula is very angular in his design. His face is a diamond shape. He has a very angular look with his cape, nose, face, and body.

None of the Hotel Transylvania characters really have a beanface look. Even Johnny looks and feels more like Shaggy than a generic beanface.
