I'm probably going to enjoy this, but I swear to fuck if the critics praise it after dragging Snyder's films for having "too many characters" and trying too hard to set up a cinematic universe. one movie is using these random Z-listers as supporting characters who will probably have like 20 minutes of screentime while the other movie was cramming all of DCs biggest characters in at once. there's an obvious difference and I doubt all of them combined will have as prominent a role as Batman did in BvS, who was basically the deuteragonist of the movie.

nobody gave Deadpool shit for having Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead in it but if they had Wolverine and Cyclops the first one it would've felt like crowded cameo slop.

If this movie has a scene of Clark sitting down to watch some Youtube videos introducing these other superheroes I will apologize to Snyder, but I suspect that won't happen.

I mean, execution matters. I thought the same thing about the DCEU verse and while I think it is odd that Gunn is doing something similar, I'm still really looking forward to it and I think ultimately, if it's actually good, that just cements that it's all about making a good work in the end. If you have a bunch of ideas that could work in theory or are even outright cool, awesome, unique ideas, and your work sucks, ultimately what matters is that your work could've been a lot better than it was.

The weirdest thing is I've heard that they're specifically trying to make the movies less interconnected as a response to their previous failures, which should give them even less reason to overstuff the movie with characters and yet here we are. Honestly I didn't even think the old DCEU was bad about it, you could watch Aquaman and Aquaman 2 or Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 2 and it never expected you to know anything other than what was shown in the movie itself. The problem wasn't the cinematic universe, the problem was that they weren't making good movies. But it seems like the perception of "cinematic universes are too bloated and confusing" is hard to shed because the average viewer is too dumb to remember something they were told 5 minutes ago.
