Hot take: the original Bayformers Autobot cast is basically perfect. You need Optimus, right? And you need Bumblebee. How do you round out the cast, if you need five? I don't think you can do any better than Ironhide, Jazz, and Ratchet. They're some of the most iconic Autobots from G1, and they all have a pretty reliable gimmick (the tough guy, the cool guy, the medic).

I'd be perfectly happy with a new Transformers movie with that cast. I guess they have to add Arcee but she's pretty iconic, too, so I don't really mind it.

So from what I gathered and understand, Michael Bay is developing a new Transformers movie for Paramount, possibly as director, with a script by Jordan VanDina (Looking into him, he is known as a fast writer for 'weekend scripts' so might just be for a short draft idea rather than a full length script). If Skydance’s deal to buy Paramount goes through, they’ll inherit these projects and Paramount keeps the Transformers rights as long as a new movie is in production by 2029. As a note, the deal with Michael Bay has not been officially finalized.
