If you felt nothing during this entire sequence, then you have no soul.
Pure and simple.

The sequence was fun but the movie as a whole was a bit too reliant on pop-culture references. I get it was to fit with making FFA a Hollywood pastiche, but it seems too indulgent to me looking back on it.

Barely remember the rest of the movie honestly, but this scene was great

Shrek 2 is a great movie, but it was also a fluke. None of the other second installments by DreamWorks are on the same level
>but what about The Last Wish?
Doesn't count. It isn't really a second installment. Almost zero connection with the other Puss movie

The main reason I felt anything was because I heard this song in Short Circuit 2 first and that set the bar pretty high.

The thing is Shrek 2 actually uses pop culture references correctly. Pop culture references should never just be "remember thing" you need an actual fucking joke to pair them with. Like the KNIGHTS segment is one of the funniest segments in the movie because they cram in a bunch of jokes like the OJ reference, the pepper mill, or the catnip

Like the KNIGHTS segment is one of the funniest segments in the movie because they cram in a bunch of jokes like the OJ reference, the pepper mill, or the catnip bit. It's not just a "remember COPS?" joke, they do visual gags and puns with their parody. Movies like Airplane! or Mel Brooks movies have a ton of pop culture references but they're still good because they're actual jokes first that don't necessarily require knowledge of what is being referenced to find it funny.
