I recently rewatched season 4 and I've got to say that the animation quality bump feels massive coming directly off of watching some random S1 eps on tv. It's to the point where the default S4 eps resemble the hour-long Specials in prior seasons.

I'm hoping the new show will get another graphical upgrade, but with the 11 min episode duration, I'm kinda concerned about the overall direction. Not much can be accomplished from a narrative perspective in 11 minutes.

S4 was a big bump in quality, I think most of the characters got improved models, the environments became more detailed and the lighting got much better so the characters look more like they belong in the environments. Compare this image to the earlier season screencaps above, it's like night and day.

I have to wonder if it was always planned to end after S4 or they thought it would continue, because it seems strange to make such a big investment in improving the quality of the show just for one season.

It's comparable to MLP:FiM in pretty much every regard. It's just a tad worse in all those aspects too. "FiM-lite" or "Diet FiM" is how I'd refer to Sofia the First.

So, basically, if you've watched every single episode of tiny equines ad nauseum at least 10x like me, Sofia is a wonderful way to get more of that whimsical, fantasy, hugboxy, FiM-esque fix. It also serves as an effective bastion against less savory alternatives. For example, it's WAAY better than G5 of MLP. All those faggots over on /mlp/ were so suicidally desperate for more poni that they continually forced themselves to watch G5 after G4 ended in 2019. Shit was so bad it got canned in only a few seasons. Now they've all gone back to G4 wanking as nature intended.
Whenever I get that desperate longing itch for more FiM goodness, all I need to do is watch a couple of eps of Sofia, and suddenly my suicidal urges just vanish into thin air!

So to answer your question, YES, it is absolutely a good show if you fall within a certain demographic. A demographic which is extremely common amongst posters on /mlp/ and /v/. This is why I will continue to make Sofia threads on /v/ on a semi-regular basis.

I think if you want to write a grim GoT inspired Sofia you should take the setting and characters of the show into account, not just copypaste material from GoT and swap names. Here's how I'd do it:

>James is quite easily manipulated as well, and a horse riding accident wouldn't be out of the question, but that can wait

>That puts 10yo James on the throne and makes the Queen, Sofia's mother and a commoner, a completely out of her depth regent
>Cedric is now in a very good position to manipulate everybody

If you wanted to lean more into the smut angle you could have Cedric get Sofia addicted to his cock and make her a willing participant in his schemes to manipulate the royal family, perhaps on the understanding that they will be the real power in the end. Or age the characters up to the point they're of child bearing age and have all the secondary princesses competing for James to put a baby in them to make sure their kid is next in line to the throne and not Amber. What other villains does she hug on a regular basis? Why doesn't she bend over backward to help Grimtrix when it's clear he has personal issues of being in the shadow of royalty? The second it's revealed why Cordelia hates Cedric, Sofia immediately sides with him despite the fact that the evidence appears to paint him in the wrong. There's tons of examples like this, many of which I can't remember off the top of my head without rewatching the whole series.

Sofia is particularly empathic when it comes to Cedric. Yes, she is a very kind person overall, but she really goes out of her way to help Cedric and comfort his chronically bruised ego time after time. Now, please note this does NOT automatically equate to romantic interest. It could simply be she pities him for being such a mess and feels he needs more help than most other people. But the constant hugging all the time makes it feel a tad more intimate (especially when you consider almost every time she hugs him, her face is plunged right into his crotch area due to their height difference lol).

My understanding is that Sofia was planned to continue but Disney decided to wind it up in favour of Elena of Avalor (same universe, same creator).
