Are there seriously no multi-galaxy to universal opponents that fight at a fast pace and in space? I don’t mind if Asura loses but the energy and spectacle should be something you’d see Asura’s Wrath. It should be fast and over the top. A huge reason Kratos vs Asura was so fucking boring was that Kratos was just basically a brick wall of an opponent, had basically no interesting fight chemistry with Asura, with Asura heavy carrying the fight in terms of interesting maneuvers and moments.

That storyboard was one of the worst shit I’ve ever seen from DB. It reeked of spite and seemed whoever wrote that never saw past the first five minutes of the game and just slapped the “Man Angry” label on Asura, with somebody else just listing out Asura’s forms so he can do whatever he pleased with. It’s a level of character assassination that seems purposely intentional with the purpose of making sure every element of Asura’s motives and personality wrong.

The storyboard was definitely more interesting than the actual episode in terms of fight choreography for sure. Asura picking up the sword with his mouth was great and they could’ve added that part from the first animated DLC where he fought all the Gohma and he grew that big fucking wrath arm instead of berserk Asura, which would’ve been a better transition and moment instead of having that weak “Mithra cry” moment.

I’m not saying the statue is universe-sized but it’s not completely impossible with how many galaxies came out of it. Wouldn’t it work if the statue was like at the far edge of the universe or outside of the universe? You’d still see the galaxies around it if you were facing it.

This is what gets me because Kratos is heavily reliant on his arsenals to gain the advantage. With Zeus specifically he had to put the guy down with the BoO, a weapon made to kill beings like Zeus, and keep him down with power he got from Pandora’s box. He did the same with a chained-up and weakened Cronos by killing him with the BoO and bashed Hercules’ face in with his own weapon. With Helios, he had to use a ballista to tag the guy and had a Titan smash Helios out of the sky.

Goku never tried to cultivate the next generation in a serious manner like Roshi did. Roshi only stepped down from fighting in tournaments and training pupils when he was sure Goku,Tien, and others had the fire to endlessly train. But Goku? He dipped to the afterlife at the first sign of his son being stronger than him. Now if the series ended after Cell? Maybe you could cope and say Goku had successfully passed it on to Gohan who took things seriously after learning his lesson against Cell. This is actually the biggest weakness of the Buu saga. Goku never admits to his own selfishness in fucking off to the afterlife to train. Vegeta and Gohan's selfishness are touched on. Obvious Vegeta was selfish for putting his rematch with Goku over dealing with the threat of Buu. And Gohan was selfish for being entrusted as Earth's protector and then never training for 7 years. But Goku was just as guilty for leaving for his own selfish reasons before ensuring there was a younger generation that was just as hungry to train and fight as he was.

I actually thought the animation for Kratos vs. Asura was good. I know a lot of people had problems with it, but I thought it was great.

Even if you disagree about Asura losing, given the power gap between the two it makes sense for Kratos to take little damage. It also put Kratos in some kind of a mentor or elder role to Asura, and let Kratos show how far he had come by defeating someone who had been down the same path as him. He wasn't just fighting Asura, he was TEACHING Asura. And I think that's very heartwarming in a way. That Kratos would take the lessons he learned and help someone who was just like him.

If this weren't a Death Battle I'm sure they would have ended cordially and taught each other well. The alternate ending is weird, even if heartwarming in its own way. It was nice to see Kratos reunite with his daughter, but it feels weird to have him just stand there and take that punch.

I haven't played Asura's game though (but after watching this fight I think I might watch a playthrough!) so I might be missing stuff but as a big GoW fan I thought they did Kratos justice and from what I saw they treated Asura with the utmost respect. Unironically it explains why the analysis goes out of its way to emphasize that Asura uses his anger for justice and isn't a tool of mindless violence, and even the verdict specifically gives Asura the experience point and says "Kratos needed to learn to control his rage while Asura pretty much always had his under control", yet the fight goes the exact opposite direction.
They've mentioned that the fight is what's written first before the analyses because it needs to be done and storyboarded earlier, so the analyses and verdict could be adjusted but the fight itself couldn't without fucking the entire production up.
