Rage bait or not to play Devil's Advocate this series honestly is not good. The turtles trying to be edgy like the Mirage Comics while NOT being allowed to because its a kid's show is automatically shit.

The turtles are all incompetent and they failed to defeat all the major villains. This cartoon also introduced the annoying Leo simping for Karai shit. And when your heroes are grossly incompetent you end up with a terrible series. Again the turtles failed against every villain like Bishop, Stockman, Karai, etc. Shredder wasn't even beaten by the turtles either.

And speaking of baddies how Casey forgave Hun for killing his father was disgusting. Hun didn't change he became a more evil crime lord. So I really hate this series.

Also the choreography for the animated sequences is worse than competing cartoons at the time like Teen Titans. This show does not stand the test of time as much as diehard fanboys don't want to admit it.

Not a terrible show, but I never saw a single episode that actually made me want to watch another. I think the issue is that every other TMNT series places emphasis on "fun", by indulging in stupidity, silliness, and/or fantasy, but when you're trying to copy Mirage, the "fun" parts require legitimate tension and violence, which just wasn't in the cards for a Saturday morning cartoon in 2003.

It feels like TMNT is stuck in the same cycle as Transformers and Power Rangers, where the first version always gets the spotlight. The '80s turtles constantly get the references, merchandise, games, and media attention. We still get G1 Transformers merch, and Power Rangers seems permanently tied to Mighty Morphin when it comes to comics and games. TMNT 2003 came out over 22 years ago, yet it gets almost no nostalgic recognition. When will it get its nostalgia pandering? I want a beat 'em up like Shredder's Revenge, but with the 2003 characters, god damn it. Why is it always the '80s version? Is it just because they were the first?

Honestly I think the game hit the perfect balance.

TMNT is inherently a wacky over the top concept, but the game gets it just right with the colorful cast of characters that at least act a bit seriously and are not full on wacky Looney Tunes about it, People like the colorful cast and somewhat lighthearted upbeat way of telling the story, but with lasers and monsters from space.

The 87 show went off the fucking rails midway through season 3, while 2003 was too damn hard in the opposite direction trying to be super serious no fun allowed. It's another example of a show trying to "imitate anime" while ignoring that Dragonball also had lots and lots of levity and colorful goofy characters being dumb on screen too.

2003 is destined to be buried since Nickelodeon bought the franchise. Meaning they have to reference 87 since that is how it became a household name, and it's more 80s toy series mentions which are always huge in modern media. While 2012 and everything after are firmly Nick/Viacom properties that they want to push. 03 being a Fox thing that had no Paramount involvement is downplayed for not helping the modern brand and shareholders bottom line at all.

This was a big issue I had. I grew up on '87, but had obviously outgrown it by 2003, and I liked that the new series was aiming for something more "mature", but it ended up falling on its face—I can suffer incompetence in my heroes when it's something like the 87 show, or even 2012 or Rise where the fact that the turtles are all inexperienced, idiotic, hyperactive teens was played up for laughs as part of the formula, but in '03 all the characters felt like they were obsessed with being cool and appealing while repeatedly doing the dumbest fucking shit imaginable, with nary a joke or gag in sight to let the audience know they're in on the joke. Because there wasn't a joke.

Instead of feeling like it was about actual teenagers, it just felt like it was written by actual teenagers. I've tried to rewatch it multiple times since, but I can never make it more than a few episodes. 87 is garbage, but at least it's unserious garbage that wants you to laugh at it.

That's because Dragonball started as just Dr.Slump 2 but with a Saiyuki pastiche, Toriyama said he NEVER wanted to move away from his brand of comedy of perverted retards being stupid and bad people and getting humiliated at the end, he just wanted to do comedy and his jokes and gags, because he was like that, but the editorial of Shueshia forced him to focus on fights since Fist of the North Star was still very popular at the time, Toriyama sucked and Drama and Romance, let alone humanizing characters, but he was damn good at character ideas, being a concept guy, staging, fight choreography and mechs designs.

Anime and Manga is more then just Dragonball and Ranma and Pokemon clones the same way it's more then just Speed Racer and Sailor moon.
