Its pretty disappointing the direction that they're taking madison with this whole play arc. Granted, she hasn't done all that much, but i liked her personality and the fact that she was allowed to call out the constant bullshit of the comic sometimes while still being enough of a tweaker to fit in with the rest of the cast. Now she's oblivious to whats obviously going on in front of her, i would have even accepted "shes in denial because its her girlfriend" if they wrote it halfway decently (even though thats kind of inconsistent with how she was able to notice/call out jess's crush on lucy and how similar they are). Method Acting seemed to pretty clearly show thats she's genuinely unaware that the play meant anything, seems like its just a story contrivance that ignores her characterization so far. I was holding out hope taeshi do something interesting with her but ill have to stop being the resident madison sperg if her character keeps being "whatever tae wants to move the story"

Yeah, and i liked her as a retarded crashout lesbian. Even her making up with lucy i could almost look past, since when you look past madison's insecurity they're pretty similar. I pretty much threw out hope of her or anyone else going anywhere once it became clear paisy was shaping up though, and it doesn't look like this chapter is gonna change that.

>For once I'm not upset to see David.
I have taken a sturdy ship and sailed east, guided by that cursed star whose wan light creeps into nurseries and hospital wards to break the minds of the young and the infirm. I soon reached the Sunless Cove, whereupon the fell coterie of mermaids who dwell there surfaced from their deep abodes and began to assault my ship, but found the wards unbreachable and so began to sing their siren song. I took up my fiddle and so began a musical duel which lasted for many hours, until at last their voices grew hoarse and they began to whisper the threads of prophecy I sought in order to get me to leave.

Thus, I am able to alert you that Wednesday's page has no James in it, and is simply David, in a somewhat meta commentary, remarking that Jess's play was a noble melodramatic encapsulation of teenage life, as high schoolers oft make mountains of molehills, and while Rachel's character was a crass comic relief, she was still a key part of the story whose friendship was crucial to resolving the conflict at the heart of the play. Rachel is thus swooned by Jess's sweet fictional portrayal of her, whilst Madison is enraged by the sheer level of bullshit she just witnessed working.

>Something something your friendship was key to giving Jess the support she needed in the play, just like in the RL with Tess.
Which of course mystifies me, as it was on Rachel's behalf that Jess first made an enemy of Tess. Were it not for their friendship, Jess's life would have actually been much better. I dunnoe, I don't think Taeshi actually much remembers what she wrote her story. Or maybe the mermaids lied to me, they're fucking fishy like that.

It wasn't just one fight, though. You have to consider the larger context: plays, like any kind of large-scale product, take months of lead time and dozens of people. Even for a small school play, the amount of effort and time spent is considerable.

Which means Jess spent weeks writing and directing a dozen-odd cast and crew to produce a play that makes her entire social circle look like dumb assholes, while notJess single-handedly saves the town from the evil grip of notTess. After the real Tess apologized for everything and graduated last year. The level of investment, the fact that she (and everyone else involved) kept it a secret until the actual play, and her ridiculously obvious attempts to gaslight and bribe her way out of trouble, all make it way worse than just a single slight or argument.

Although, that brings up the question: why the fuck was Jess already familiar with the bouncer at a club with an age limit?

Probably a distant relative of her like a cousin or whatever

You're completely right that Jessica raped him, she got the guy drunk so she could take advantage of him.
Taeshi has a bit of a habitat of depicting rape (The whole Augustus and Daisy arc, Lucy kissing Augustus, Alejandro)
This would be fine and interesting and all if it weren't for the fact that only Augustus' and Alejandro's actions were taken seriously and had srrious consequences, women have more leg room to do rapey shit in Taeshi's world

Agreed, and while it was possible Paulo was aware of what he was going through, he couldn't legally consent while intoxicated. I wish the consequences were explored a bit. But Paulo is clearly way too forgiving.

I wouldn't say that's completely true, you can be a head over heals undying simp for someone and still empathize with another, but the universe seems to be heavily in favor of Lucy's good fortune and Mike's bad. In that case, Abbey might have it less harder to get into Augustus' loving embrace.
Maybe there's a scale. Lucy would just have to cry and whine once. Abbey, Paulo, and David might have to get seriously injured. Mike might only get Augustus' sympathy after death from jumping in front of a train.

Augustus' sympathy would only ever be used out of convenience as window dressing, as illustrated by the two conversations he's had with Mike. In the first, he was inexplicably sympathetic despite Mike having "owed Lucy," which is bullshit thanks to the context but whatever. In the second, Gus could not have given less of a fuck about Mike despite him doing absolutely nothing wrong. Augustus is just a tool to prop up Lucy and the plot, though he's far from unique in the latter regard.

Having reread [Back and Forth] and [Pillow Talk], here's the plain, canonical facts:
>The backstory of what Tess did to Rachel and Jess was entirely framed as a story Jessica tells
>Jessica is on first-name basis with the bouncer to a club with an age limit, and has a fake ID
>Jessica implied to Paulo that it wasn't her first time (and he believed her), but later claimed that it was
>Dissing Paulo's abilities was Jessica's idea
>At Lucy's party, Lucy called Jess a slut and beat her up for hurting Paulo. Jessica responded by telling the Tess backstory and saying she'd been pretending to have more experience than she did

Now, add to that those facts that can be gleaned from reading between the lines:
>Jessica has a massive crush on Lucy, and STILL thinks it's a shame that Lucy's straight; as such, Jess would care about Lucy's opinion of her
>Jessica is willing and able to use sex as a weapon
>Jessica is apparently a shameless liar and gaslighter who thinks of pretty much everyone she knows as easily-manipulated idiots

All this together puts Jess's account of what happened between her and Tess in doubt, and makes me suspect that Jess IS a slut, and Tess just called her out.

Jess also thought she could glean information about Tess by acting coy with that one dude that was Tess's ex friend. It's weird that her first plan of attack is that, but i guess that's just how revenge works for her. Though she didn't want to take it that far with the friend. I wonder what changed between then and Paulo, because that's when Tess became better. (I suppose Paulo made an easier target, which looks pretty bad on Jess)

no one goes to jail JUST for getting drunk with someone and having sex because it happens all the fucking time, it's practically what clubs and bars are made for and you pretending otherwise is exposing how much of a loser you are
Unless they're physically or mentally incapable of consenting, which Paulo and Jessica were clearly able to do, you're not doing anything criminal, people don't go to jail because being drunk at all means they can't legally consent, it means they went to court and a jury believed the prosecution's claim that the girl was blacked out

Anon, my dear, sweet, sweet, unbelievably simple anon. It is hard to believe this needs to be explained to you but I will try. The Confederacy is a defunct state. It no longer exists. It is gone, dead for over a century. A non-existent state cannot back any currency it issued. Non-backed currency has no value as currency. You're misremembering slightly; in the flashback, Jess tried to flirt with that one dude (Craig) to get information on Roger (the guy Tess was dating at the time, and the person who actually broke Aaron's arm). Then the next day, Tess revealed that she'd heard from Craig what happened pretty much instantly, and had exaggerated it into Jess being a total slut. But again, this is all according to Jess, who I consider an unreliable narrator.

And it's interesting that even in Jess's telling, her first plan is to use sex/dating as a weapon to get Craig to give her what she wants; she just can't go through with it.

>>149235340
First, getting someone drunk to facilitate sex very much meets the legal definition of rape in most jurisdictions. Second, I can't speak for that anon, but I for one am not making a legal argument. I'm making a "Jess is a psycho creep" argument. Getting revenge on someone by conspiring to NTR them is insane no matter how you slice it, and the way Jess went about it just further underlines that.

>First, getting someone drunk to facilitate sex very much meets the legal definition of rape in most jurisdictions.
You're wrong first off, any law that broaches the subject is very clear about the victim needing to be unable to consent and they need to prove malice even when it does reach that point, being drunk doesn't mean you're passed out and unable to consent and every sentencing has to weigh this with how drunk the jury is convinced they were, don't talk about the law if you're going to act like they're rules in a server with definitive answers.
Secondly, Paulo went on the date explicitly to have sex with Jess, they didn't drink to facilitate having sex they drank because they're partying in a club and that's how you loosen up, you're drawing intent toward their actions that A: are never backed up in the comic and B: pretend like Paulo was doing any of this against his will
Jess and Paulo are less than a year apart in age, they both drank, both of them were going into the date under zero false pretenses (Jess told Paulo she was only doing it to make Tess jealous, Paulo told her it would work and she should go on a date with him to spite Tess), and both of them consented to have sex in the end to the point Paulo immediately went out to fuck Rachel too.
If you really just want to say Jess was a creep fine, I disagree she was the only one to blame but whatever, but carrying any water for it being rape like you're flirting with even now is beyond ridiculous, it's borderline a farce that can only be explained by ulterior motives or immense stupidity.

>Paulo went on the date explicitly to have sex with Jess ... both of them consented
Both of those statements are just assumptions on your part. See >>149235396; Paulo was pretty clearly uncomfortable and nervous, and Jessica explicitly says "This'll mellow you out." when giving him a drink. He was surprised when Jess went at him, and looks rather unhappy and a bit shocked after the fact.

Now to me, getting someone drunk then jumping their bones like that seems pretty rapey; the fact that it was a date doesn't make Jess NOT a rapist, it just makes her a date-rapist. And sure, Paulo playing his role in this insane scheme makes him a dumb asshole, but being a dumb asshole doesn't mean he didn't get raped.

>Both of those statements are just assumptions on your part.
Not an assumption, picrel, Paulo very clearly states his intention to bag as many chicks as he can, then Jessica walks in frame and he asks her out, there is zero room for interpretation unless you don't know what "bagging chicks" means
>Paulo was pretty clearly uncomfortable and nervous, and Jessica explicitly says "This'll mellow you out." when giving him a drink
Also wrong, Paulo is excited and freaking out, hence needing to "mellow out", I mean did you not look at the page you just quoted?
>He was surprised when Jess went at him, and looks rather unhappy and a bit shocked after the fact.
Why wouldn't he be shocked? He just lost his virginity, and is explicitly unhappy about not performing well, I can post the page if you need it but it's not even a little vague why Paulo's unhappy because he keeps bringing it up even to Rachel, who he goes out to fuck the very next day.
>Now to me, getting someone drunk then jumping their bones like that seems pretty rapey
Again you've gone back to this idea that Jessica got him drunk as if she needed him to be drunk to have sex when it was Paulo's goal the entire time, they BOTH started drinking and they were BOTH drunk, your view is not inline with the reality of the comic because nothing supports the idea it was rape, you're trying very hard to shove a square peg in a round hole.

Ah I did misremember that, though I still got the jist of her using herself to get information. I would believe that Jess wasn't being a total slut at that time because I'm fairly certain that Tess admits that she did spread a rumor rather than state the fact of the matter.

To throw my hat in the ring, because I'm a retard here too, I looked at South Dakota's law (as I don't know anyone who complains about South Dakota).
Due to the fact that they are both minors, it already gets in the weeds, but on the home page it says Jess is seventeen years old (so I assume she was 16 years old at the time of the event). Because Paulo is less than 5 or 3 years younger than Jess, most of what one could hit her with would be misdemeanors. Her act would either fall under 22-22-1 (4) or at least 22-22-24.3; the major thing against Jess is that she actually made a fake ID and brought Paulo to the premises. So it would be a much less he-said-she-said ordeal due to the fact that she went out of her way to break other laws to get to that point.
>>149236917
Okay? I guess he said that like way before the act actually happened, before Jess even invited him out, but you could still take that for him being naive and not really knowing the gravity of it.

So it doesn't matter what Paulo says or plans to do, you can just imagine up some scenario that can't be disproved and the actual characters actions don't matter anymore?
this is completely useless conjecture
The actual sex scene isn't shown either, you could say Jess beat Paulo and physically raped him and it would be just as valid as what you just said.

Jessica? I don't think her or Madison are necessarily bad romantic partners, just rough around the edges as people.

Hell yeah! I'll try drawing that among others, but other artists like VK102 have done that.

I haven't considered these, it would be an interesting turn of events but still not justify Tessa's bullying any better.

That's a good drawing. I feel like that shirt is real somewhere out there.

I'd love to see the characters here, 4chan was created in 2003 I think, and was once popular for anime so tha alone might draw Daisy, Sue, and their nerdy friends. Lucy would stick around to troll.

If not legal charges, I do wish her actions were exposed more just to see how everyone would react to it, hell maybe they were spread and nobody minded cause Paulo easily forgave her to the point that they're on speaking terms as mutual friends which is crazy. Then again Paulo is a masochist who loves getting abused, by violent girls like Lucy and Madison, I'd totally forsee buddy entering an abusive relationship and never coming out. Let's hope Daisy doesn't turn into a monster.
>>149237058
Well we would see evidence like bruises and scars in that case. Then again do we see them drawn often when Lucy does that? The beating bit, not raping.

I actually did want to ask y'all this scenario. Pick a ship, you got to fight one in it to date the other. Obviously this is assuming the characters are aged up to adulthood.
I think the safest bet is fighting James for Matt, it's less risky than fighting David for Matt or Paulo for Lani.

So I'm guessing the parents are like "Well we're gonna start selling your body to the high schoolers in the next city for a living, get dressed Sue."
