Basically stick to an audience that you want and DON'T deviate from them.

Listen to fans that genuinely care about the show and know what they want. Instead of retards like shippers.

Actually make good merch that can be sold to general audiences.

Make the show unique to give people a reason to watch.
And for the love of God don't get involved in politics unless the show was specifically made for it.
