I think Bumblebee being named by a human is more or less going to be a thing moving forward since why would they know what a bumblebee is? They have animals, and plants this universe, so it's possible. But it just doesn't make sense.

That's the thing..it succeeded with kids, which is what mattered. It doesn't matter if the older fans online didn't like it, ultimately it sold kids the Yellow Car robot and Green Dinosaur robot and entertained them well enough.
I do think it was probably aimed at a younger crowd, and that was part of the strategy around this time. Hasbro basically figured it wasn't worth making higher quality figures for new shows for kids, they could just make updates in 10 years when the kids who saw it grew up.

A 3 episode/45 minute per episode long series that builds up to whatever will be animated only needs one thing, voice actors not shitty youtubers. Marvel was linear, uniform art, and had only 3 or so writers over the course of its run.

But when you get into IDW, it's a mess of the spotlights, all the parallel runs making a hard to follow narrative and impossible to put side by side. I read IDW through the collection and chronologically it's the worst. Some good ideas came from it, but actually reading it in full, even through each run separately, is a shit show when every writer has their own bias for and against certain characters.

Still, the juice can be worth the squeeze. IDW, as much of a mess as it could be, still felt like more viable fiction than most of the last 10 years of TF media.
I would say for a good deal of us, nostalgia and the comics are what's carrying our ongoing interest in the franchise. It's not shit like the Netflix trilogy or Earth Spark or ROTB.
