IIRC Jean lost her telepathy when she came back in the 80s and didn't get it back until just before the end of the O5 X-Factor era, but you're otherwise correct. Morrison and Whedon created an entirely false narrative that Scott and Jean were a massively dysfunctional relationship, and Bendis created the idea of Jean having villain-tier telepathic ethics, and everyone just bought it, because nobody reads comics from before the 2000s, and just blindly accept whatever lies modern material tells them about the past.
