Method Animation is a french stuio, not sure if it's the same one we heard about doing the reboot 10 fucking years ago or however long its been. I found an article that talks about it like this is the same show after years of re-re-revamps, so who knows?

Apparently there's also a french comic called "Astro Boy Year Zero" that's coming out that's going to be "darker" and "more adult", for whatever that means nowadays.

This new reboot is technically the same project. Shibuya Productions took the project and went to Method, another French animation studio. They reworked a lot of shit in the interrim, so no telling how much of the show is going to remain the same, especially seeing that we knew basically nothing about it to begin with.

The eyes are too feminine, the hair tufts are too long. Might be Uran. This would help ratings, though.
I hope it's good. Astroboy was always interesting for philosophy and directly confronting humanity's hypocritical point of view.

Why do they keep making Astroboy reboots? He's failed enough times so that executives see that no one gives a fuck about Astroboy. And he got replaced by Mega Man who cooler since at least he wears full body armor. Don't bother saying "But Mega Man was inspired by Casshern and not Astroboy" both of them inspired Mega Man.

And one of the reasons Astroboy doesn't work is simply the art style he looks gay due to having feminine assets. And oddly enough this reboot art style here >>149256434 is kind of ugly.

I am so tired of this franchise always getting rebooted. No one cares about it and should go away. Same to other old shit that refuses to die like Detective Conan and Dragon Ball. Japan really must be all out of ideas. Certainly doesn't help they keep remaking the same things all the time like Rurouni Kenshin or Ranma or Sailor Moon, and it goes on.

It's a reimagining of Astroboy but with a more serious art style and Astroboy is not really the protagonist. He is important to resolving the final battle but that's about it. The story is a detective story about a robot who kills a human. So its really uninspired as a premise.

That's not the way it works, when a modern adaptation of an old franchise fails people don't go back to the older media of the same franchise.

What they do is go back to their modern hobbies like watching streamers, playing video games, youtube, etc. When something is old it simply won't hold the attention of young people especially in current year because Short Term Attention Spans are a real problem.

That shit is going to stay so long as women have rights. The only way that shit is on its way out would be when all nations that practice Women's Rights rot enough to collapse so that the pain and suffering teaches them why its a horrible idea to give women rights.

I would say Sweden will be the first nation to declare Women's Rights were a mistake. Granted it won't be the Swedes saying this but their Islamic conquerors who enforce their Sharia Law and such.

That totally misses the entire point of Astro Boy. The original manga was already dark as shit, it only had a cartoon coat of paint to make those dark themes approachable to everyone.

Hell, we ALREADY have the "more adult" Astro Boy with Pluto, and it really isn't much darker than the original. It just has a more realistic style, but otherwise it's pretty faithful. To act like we need yet another edgy reboot is a pretty big red flag.

It's like a remake of Astro boy with basically the same characters with a few different names, i'm thinking of an analogy and i know one like it exists with /co/ but i'm still remembering. There's been a market for more adult takes on classic kids franchises in France and Belgium for a while now (Marsupilami, Lucky Luke, Spirou). In recent years there's also been a market for European comics based on Japanese properties that were popular there (Captain Harlock, Grendizer). This is just combining both. Also relevant, the Spanish one that's about reinventing Tezuka characters as a superhero team in a sci-fi setting.

Sega was not at it's best in the early 2000's to say the least. It is weird because the Treasure developed Astro Boy game that was just published by Sega wasn't just good it was one of the best action games on the GBA.

You'd think the writers wouldn't include any comedy attempts in this scene because of what happens in it (a child gets murdered), yet they do. For example, there is one comedy attempt at 1:41 (the drone who says "I hate this job") and there's also the president guy saying stuff that is meant to be amusing ("It's like a videogame"/"I might have flunked in college")

>Thomas Astruc, the creator and director of the globally successful youth franchise โ€œMiraculous โ€“ Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir,โ€ is set to reboot โ€œAstroboy,โ€ one of the best-selling manga series of all time.

>Method Animation, the prestigious Mediawan Kids & Family banner behind โ€œMiraculousโ€ and โ€œThe Little Prince,โ€ is joining forces with Shibuya to produce this ambitious new series.

>The original animated TV series came out in 1963 and became a global sensation, especially in Japan and France, as well as in the U.S. where it was the first anime to air. Based on the manga collection created by Osamu Tezuka which sold over 100 million copies worldwide, the series paved the way for other Japanese TV animation series. โ€œAstroboyโ€ was also a huge seller in merchandising, turning the little child-like robot character into a pop-culture icon and best-known superhero of Tezukaโ€™s work.

Its a hard reimagining of a minor ark from the Astro Boy manga only written by a different author(the one who did Monster) and turned into a detective series. Not uncommon for different manga artist to adapt other mangaka's series. Personally I didn't care for it or any of the authors works because all hit shit is the same.

I guess he's leaving Miraculus's team to create the show without him. Perhaps that would finally let some of them step over the line that ML has been holding back from and go full Totally Spies for awhile.

Does no one get the humour of a computer generated Astroboy series in a time of Ai art?
And Uran going topless is a callback joke for some because the Astro series just never gets around to that sort of thing. Is there a factory somewhere that creates robot skin? Do they hire human models to scan to size the skin? The humans would be scanned, not the clothes they wear, jtbc. The setting would be in full support of that sort of "just show up, walk over there naked, and get paid" job for a human. It's part of the human-coddling that sets up so much in Astroboy.

That's like the first thing I thought of when it started being pushed everywhere. Funny enough Tezuka actually did touch on the subject slightly in the anime. Astro joins a robot school and tried to make art, but ends up making a piece totally incomprehensible to humans, much to their dismay.

I can imagine a modern spin on the concept would expand on that tidbit, with robots being forced by humans to make uncanny amalgamations of existing art, instead of the incomprehensible stuff that only a robot can appreciate. With the moral being that robots should be free to make art for themselves, because that's the whole point of art.

As obnoxious as the constant threads about this damn movie are, I feel like the film did have a lot of good in it. Flawed as all hell and not really a good adaptation all things considered, but the idea of Astro being this philosophical nightmare of a robot having the memories of a dead guy always fascinated me.

Like, imagine waking up one morning only to find out your a robot. Were you always like this? Did you even exist before that morning? Do you technically have the "soul" of your previous life? There's just so much you can do with this concept.

Most Astroboy stories are simply redoes of the previous ones.

The 2003 series only redoes SOME of the old stories, otherwise it really goes to different places than the other series, especially the fact that robots aren't considered actual citizens whereas they are in the other series.

I'm not sure why you'd expect a show from 20 years ago to be the franchise's focal point when it wasn't the original iteration and seems like it wasn't as popular as those involved had hoped. It would be nice if it got a proper HD release (the credits suggest it was an early HD production, which isn't surprising given it was clearly a big vanity project) and an official subtitled version, but Sony (who co-produced it) is an issue. The rights to that show are held by Sony Pictures and rather than give those titles to Crunchyroll, they seem content to hold onto them and at best just let Mill Creek do jank discs.

Though, I don't know if Crunchyroll would do anything with Astroboy anyway. It's not really in their typical wheelhouse. Maybe if they didn't immediately fire all of the Nozomi people (they released the original Astroboy series on DVD in the '00s) there could be a chance.

just love that no matter the subject, there's always some random anon who has like a billion images and some low-key sorta creepy obsession with some aspect of the said show/comic/series

What?
It is mostly a detective drama that is significantly more tame than most anime.

So why did she run away from her parents? How did she get to the surface? The writers don't bother to explain it

>leeching off GoLion
Voltron has been iterated on to the point where it doesn't have much to do with GoLion anymore, outside of the vague idea of five pilots in a lion mech. Later versions are all directly based on lore that was made up for the English version.

No, it's REALLY not. I caught this movie on TV last year and it was way, way better than I was expecting. Solid 3 star movie.

The specific story was that the (hong kong? don't remember) animation studio that made that movie lost a lot of money on it and had to close iirc. Astro Boy isn't something that dies just because of 1 movie, and Pluto pretty recently had a well received anime adaptation

Pluto wasn't even the only Atom anime to come out after the movie. I know there was that weird prequel series a while back.
