Hot take They could have survived (at least for a significantly longer period of time) if they had actually followed instructions correctly. The tragedy here really comes from them misunderstanding what they're being told to do and not comprehending the situation

If you survive the initial blast you have a very good chance at staying alive. If they had actually boarded up their windows and stored their water properly they would have had a very good shot at making it until supplies ran out. The water thing had already screwed them but the main reason they died was because they didn't understand fallout.

To survive nuclear fallout, you need to not be exposed to the outside world for no less than two weeks. It doesn't matter the yield of the bomb, by that point the radiation would've come down to amicable levels. The problem was the fallout. When they boiled the water, they weren't decontaiminating it, they were concentrating the amount of radioactive particles in there. If they had more water before hand, or hell just drank it as it was, it would've been better than boiling and taking it there.

The Soviets didn't even plan to nuke most of those cities in Britain. NATO completely misread (or possibly deliberately misrepresented) Soviet nuclear policy.
To answer your question though, Belfast might've gotten hit but that would've been way down the target priority list.

I don't know. The motivation for switching gears to plan "fuck it lets nuke it all" on the part of NATO was fears that they'd lose the land war in Europe if they used a less extreme plan, but then they seemed to assume that the Soviets would just switch to the same because ???
Meanwhile the Soviets seemed to believe the US was just pretending to be insane again for political gain, like they had in the past.

it depends whose bombs are falling, this map in particular does not match up with the known maps that were drawn up by the USSR (which Russia is still probably using); most of the major cultural sites don't get direct strikes, because they're useful for propaganda purposes

but their contemporary Chinese equivalent (which is unlikely to still be in use) would absolutely have targeted cultural sites specifically to obliterate them

This fp didn't bring it up in a bad way I thibk, but the other posters talking about nationalism are correct. Being a nationalist, being a White nationalist if you're White, is the DEFUALT state of a normal man. You're supposed to want to push your own genetic interest. The reason posters keep bringing it up because it's one of those news speak tricks where they bring up "Nationalism bad," so much it starts to be ingrained in the public psyche. Like "Washing hands bad," and society is starting to wake up and say "What are you takking about? Washing hands is natural."

I think the wind blows is more effective as it shows the slow death and decay that would come from surviving in proximity to nuclear strikes as a suburban or rural citizen in the west. It hits closer to home (pun not intended). Barefoot gen is excellent at showing the horrors of being in or around a detonation but that won't be the vast majority of the population.

Most of the Japanese people who survived didn't stay in the irradiated area though. They went to neighboring cities that hadn't been effected or went up into the mountains where they could still access clean drinking water, etc.

With Hilda and James, they tried to shelter in place and were drinking irradiated water.

Yeah, because nuclear warfare _is_ LE BAD. We saw it once, we got a taste of it from testing and its consequences, letโ€™s not go there. Congo and everyone involved is nonnuclear and look at that mess. The best part is being nuclear and swinging your big radioactive dick around like Israel does, thatโ€™s a sweet deal.

Unless you live in India/Pakistan/Israel/Iran, no, there isn't. And frankly even if you live in one of those 4 countries there probably isn't.

First country to use nukes again, assuming they aren't destroyed, would make NK look welcome on the world stage.

This is highly overstated especially given that all instances of being "close to nuclear war" were not nearly as bad as people claim. No, you are thinking about nuclear winter. Fallout is still very much a thing that can kill you. Doubly so in the UK with their airstreams. Whether or not a country will be permanently irradiated is mostly fiction however, but again there is a likely hood you will die of exposure if you are close to the perimeter of a nuclear detonation and provide yourself with no good longterm protection

>It's the governments of the world that would unleash such suffering on their populations that are the bad guys in this.
I never said the old couple were the "bad guys". But the movie clearly drips with a bitter hatred for the older generation mentality of blindly trusting the government/system. If it wasn't clear in the portrayal and treatment of the old couple, then it should be only too obvious in the conversation had between the father and the son over the phone. The guy basing the characters on his parents is potentially even more damning, in potential regards to the conversation.

>That's just the (particularly working class) British way.

Britbongs are not, and never have been, a unified force. The reason why they constantly self-sabatoge is due to having 4 different nations, each with numerous different cultures of people and a dozen sub dialects of English. Travel 50 miles from one city to another and it is like going to a different state in the US. It's a miracle that they only have weird comics and not another civil war, and by another I mean another one since the lates 80s because Northern-Ireland was full on English/Scottish armed forces pushing tanks through streets while being attacked by Irish snipers and IEDs before Afghanistan was even a thing.

>Why does this never come up when proving cartoons are real art?
i guess for the same reason the 30+ Hungarian animated movies are never brought up, or only Jankovics and only like 2-3 films even from him.
feels like an intentional insult that Loving Vincent is always brought up when Heroic Times did the painting animation shtick earlier and is a more remarkable movie overall.

>What else, what are some other artistic animated films?
almost everything made in Europe. this retarded "arthouse" label only exists in USA, because they don't realize that animation is an art form that should always strive to be artistic.
