That was back when they were going to set it in the 1920s. They've since ditched that idea. There's long been some speculation that Coogler took some ideas from the Blade movie plans as a jumping point for Sinners. I wouldn't be surprised if he used knowledge of the movie not being likely to get off the ground to scoop up the costumes.
