How did Joe Murray go from creating a show that is still loved today like Rocko to a show that barely anyone brings up outside of "Remember that show?" (finale aside) and those who do remember it mostly just find it meh? Did Joe Murray just lose his touch?

When I was a kid I kind of liked Camp Lazlo. I don't remember much of it but it was fun for kids. It's kind of crazy how tv is so a la carte now. Without nostalgia bias, I think kids have a worse viewing experience not having "tv time" after school. Plopping down and alternating between CN and Nick for two hours. Having fun bumpers. Advertisements having to be goofy to entice kids. Being forced to rewatch an episode of Teen Titans since that's all that's on, making you commit more to being a fan.

I'm not being a boomer and saying plopping kids in front of a tv as a pacifier is God's gift, but it's like how families would sit by the radio for radio plays. It's a cultural story sharing moment and I do cherish the days from 2002-2010 with all my soul. Coming home from school and putting on Xiaolin, Jimmy Neutron, Naruto. What a life. It really was stolen from us, that bliss. It's not adulthood. It's the jews.

Lazlo was specifically made for kids, sometimes creators want to go lower in the age demographic.

Wasn't Rocko also for kids technically? It was on Nickelodeon, a kids channel where even the commercials would proudly state it was for kids

>sometimes creators want to go lower in the age demographic.
Then he decided to go even lower yet, and make a show better than Lazlo.

I always hated Lazlo's design. What part of his design even suggests "monkey" if it weren't for the ears and tail?

The scoutmaster convinces the entire town to paint on their clothes, which gives one guy enough time to build a time machine (getting dressed in the morning took away too much time for him to do it), and people from the future come to tell him that his time-saving technique led to soling world hunger and they bring a statue made of all the world's old laundry they never wear anymore. Then it rains, everyone's painted-on clothes wash off, and the statue explodes back into real clothes just before the real scoutmaster reveals that Lumpus had him locked in his basement all summer. Yes, really.

>what would suggest he’s a monkey besides having features that suggest he’s a monkey?
What the fuck kind of criticism is this? It’s like saying Mickey Mouse doesn’t look like a mouse if you remove his ears, nose, and tail. Like…no shit, Sherlock.

This show pissed me off because one of the characters was a snail but he had no shell. That's not a snail, that's a slug

Camp Lazlo was made in a notoriously weak era of children's TV and with a different crew from Rocko's Modern Life. I'm sure Joe Murray tried his best, but there's just not as much comedic or story potential when your cast is primarily kids in the middle of nowhere.

I liked this show a lot and I watched it from when it first started airing. Been a really long time since I last watched it though so I don't know what I would think of it now.

Rocko was the fourth Nicktoon released overall, the first three originals premiered on the same day. It was one of the first so it was one of the most well-known. Camp Lazlo came out long after the Cartoon Cartoons had established themselves, and at a time where every Cartoon Network show got six seasons and a movie. Longevity wasn't indicative of a show's success, shows held out production with the goal of success. I'd call it "forced longevity." The IP never went anywhere after the show finished running.

I don't understand why people don't like Camp Lazlo. I thought I was nostalgia blind because I watched the premier when I was 8, but I went back at the age of 28 to view about 6 episodes, and it holds up. Sure, it's no Rocko's Modern Life, but it's still good in my eyes.
