Theyre being led by a superstar veteran writer instead of a bunch of retards. Or Jim Lee who just steps in to the Burbank office to collect his pay checks every month.

Creatives respect other seasoned veteran creatives. Its just like when Grant Morrison was around for a short while and rebooting the focus on the 52 Universes and the Justice League Incarnate. Suddenly comics at Dc got good again

It's like Zaslav made the call to start making money or he'd start licensing the DC IPs out to other comic publishers. It feels like they gave Snyder and Williamson the keys and told them to make it work. And it feels like they actually had some cool ideas that they cared about. Feels so different from Marvel's creative direction right now where the bosses are all openly hostile towards the fans.

Only a year or two ago, pretty much every book at Marvel was good except for Amazing Spider-Man because marriage autism and specifically spiteful revenge against Spencer for not towing the line. Then they managed to piss off both Krakoa fans and Krakoa haters in one fell swoop and gave Daredevil his worst book since Shadowland. Now there's just a handful of books like Moon Knight whose character is obscure enough to be allowed to be good in 616, but at least there's Ultimate and Imperial.

Marvel is in such a bad spot right now. They have a few good books, but it feels like most of their line is just on autopilot, where you launch a book, it lasts five issues if you're lucky, and then it gets relaunched so they can sell more #1s, and they think they can get away with it because they're Marvel. DC feels like they were in a position where they were forced to actually try, and the results have been extremely good and happened extremely quickly. I would go so far as to say the average DC book is really good. There's some bad ones from them too, but I would say if you pick up a DC book off the shelf you'd probably like it. From Marvel, there's just so little I'm interested in right now. I'm planning to check out G. Willow Wilson's new Black Cat book, but it seems like the kind of thing where they'll say "This was ALWAYS planned to be a five issue miniseries"

They didn't. Their best-selling titles aren't selling well. Batman AF only sells about 65k now, after the hype died out. That's still more than ASM and its 48k, sure, but Absolute titles are the only ones that are selling well. There are just five to seven DC titles in the monthly top 30, everything else is Marvel and Image's Transformers and G.I. Joe.
The comic book industry is dying, and so is DC. If things continue as they are, it's very possible that DC won't survive until 2035.

I definitely think there needs to be major industry wide changes to make the industry healthier. But DC is at least better creatively and I enjoy what I read. Books are still too expensive for what they are though, and not enough people are reading. It's a tough hole to dig out of, but I like what I read at least, and that's the big thing.

Most people who WATCHED it, but most people, even those with Max subscriptions, haven't watched it and weren't interested in watching it.
Honestly, it wasn't even good. It was just the same old "a band of literal retards acting even more retarded than usual" recipe from Gunn's GotG and TSS movies (and Peacemaker show). It worked well 3 first times, it *kinda* worked with TSS and Peacemaker, and it barely worked with CC.

When you've been in second place consistently for ages, you're more likely to try new things and attempt to learn from past mistakes.
Also, I think that DC's failure in both gaming and film put more onus on the comics to carry the IPs into the future.

The absolute verse was a brilliant idea, successful both creatively and commercially. Based mostly off of allowing artists to do what they wanted, which resulted in two great books (Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter) two good books (Flash and Batman) and only one dud with Absolute Green Lantern.

The mainline stuff is also fairing well, more or less.
I don't care for Tom King's Wonder Woman, but she's certainly had far worse runs.
Supergirl is good so far. Same with Aquaman. I hear Green Lantern has been good.
They cancelled they shitty Powergirl comic, which was a good move.

Nigga, none of those characters even matter. Even if making them straight made them better. (which it might, I'll grant you that) those are really insignificant parts of DC's comic line up.

They're still not immune to bad decisions though. They have that upcoming Red Hood book which is written by some tranny who I don't think has written a comic before, but he did write a novel where JK Rowling dies in a fire. I can't believe people like this are still getting jobs, especially after the shit that Fags Vissagio pulled on his way out.

Still though there are a lot of DC books that are really good. And the new product lines for their collected editions seem to be successful too.

The problem is that Marvel's problems have finally come home to roost. Things like OMD were representative of a larger problem with their decision-making (if you look at how they handled things from that point on, their thinking on OMD extends to those) and whenever they do something that people didn't like they doubled down, gaslit the fans, used the variant collectors and relaunches as a way to make the sales look good. Over time they stopped being effective because they kept relying on it too much.

It's incredible how little Marvel seems to care right now. They have some good books, but seemingly by accident. I don't get the sense that Marvel cares one way or another about what's going on in Incredible Hulk. It happens to have a good writer on it right now, but I don't think it would bother them to cancel Hulk and relaunch it with some else either. They put some leftist journalist on Iron Man, and that book turned Iron Man into a literal commie who wanted his employees to vote on what his factories produce, and the villains of the book where strawman versions of the writer's enemies who hate Tony for being woke. And that book is now canceled after ten issues. Iron Man, one of the biggest Marvel heroes and the one the MCU was built around, can't last ten issues. And I don't think Marvel cares.

I must admit, I get some smudge of sadistic enjoyment from watching these literal who’s getting their hands on some established books just to watch twitter freaks screech about continuity and character botching, because it just shows how parasitic the standards for storytelling for the big two is now; “canon” always in my mind is supposed to be subordinate to the big ideas, but the big ideas suck. It’s just that the majority of people (in contemporary comic fandom) think that it isn’t the big ideas which are the pathology of these books failing and flopping, but some niche misunderstanding by these writers on any given character not conforming to someone’s headcanon.
Anonymous No.149269139 >>149269256

The problem is that Big Ideas are only half of the battle

Big Ideas are great in the short-term but what carries things long-term is a consistency which means yes, some measure of continuity has to be adhered to. That doesn't mean you need to be extra-strict about continuity like the fans who know every minutiae, but you can't just pull a Bendis and do whatever either

You just need an editor who knows when to put his foot down. Unfortunately, Marvel hasn't had one of those in decades.
