As somebody who usually shows up for it, it's a bit bland and honestly just kinda alright but "A bit bland and just kinda alright" is a huge step up from a lot of the shit from the last decade.

Carly actually does superhero shit, there's a basic attempt at keeping a plot going without it choking the flow to death. I could see her being like some C-list character in the 80s at DC or Marvel if not for the coat of diet Sailor Moon she's got.

Overall the book is alright and has a few fun villains and characters who are broadly enjoyable in general but it's nothing too special, just the bar has been very low the last few years and only recently started to get better.

I appreciate that while pretty GI Joe preachy at times Carly and the others do occasionally actually have to work through and think about their morals and beliefs from time to time and that sometimes sticking to them no exceptions is framed as too absolutist and that you do have to have some bend to you even if you don't have to give them up, just accept that the way you look at the world should always have room for context. It doesn't happen often and it's usually not a huge deal but they're not afraid to say that while she always means well she isn't perfect and needs to think things through rather than blindly regurgitating slogans and sayings.
