Well
Terrytoons was purchased by CBS in the 1950s. There was a law passed in the early 70s stating that the networks could not distribute their own programming (it was a whole thing that didn't really work and was repealed in the early 90s). CBS chose to spin off their syndication division into a new company called Viacom, which included the Terrytoons library. Viacom became big enough to purchase CBS itself in the late 90s, which for a number of reasons (notably rapist Les Moonves fighting the head of MTV Networks) didn't work either, and they split in 2006. This also split their libraries, with CBS getting most of the legacy properties and broadcast networks, and Viacom keeping the cable networks and the content made for it (in 2006 cable assets were still seen as more valuable). CBS got Terrytoons as part of the deal, but Viacom kept the theatrical rights I think? Didn't mean anything because they did jack shit with the library. Even after the remerger CBS still owns Terrytoons and still does jack shit with it

CBS reabsorbed Viacom in 2019 to form ViacomCBS which later renamed itself Paramount Global
It's all one big family again

It's a shame Paramount by their own admission doesn't give a shit about the Terrytoons. I don't know how much longer the current superhero movie trend is going to last but if they got the right crew I think a Mighty Mouse movie taking the piss out of the genre and the impact (for better or for worse) could be good. Some pencil-necked geek proposes a "Terrytoons Universe" where fucking Sidney the Elephant gets his own movie, like Dark Universe or the Suessverse shit they're trying to push, and these old ass characters nobody knows slowly realize "This is a terrible idea"

It's too bad CBS/Paramount hasn't done anything with Terrytoons since the 70s, but it's not that big of a loss. The only good series Terrytoons ever did was Heckle & Jeckle. If you've seen one Mighty Mouse short, then you've pretty much seen them all. And Dinky Duck and Gandy Goose suck ass.
