A middling to okay show that normally no one would really bat an eye over if it was a thing 10-12 years ago but because there's money to be made in bitching about it or defending it it needs to either be the best thing ever made or the worst thing ever made until the next marvel project releases
>>149279334>A middling to okay showHow so? Is really boring and the plot is dumb. what exactly makes it mid?
Why are all MCU shows that aren't original Netflix Daredevil so painfully, agonizingly boring?
Say all you want about CW shit, their better seasons were actually entertaining to watch, warts and all.

Just really poorly written, kind of poorly produced. No respect for anything, And I mean even Riri as presented in Black Panther 2 they were like "FUCK THAT, this is the story we're telling now". And then that story was pointless garbage.
>>149279243 (OP)Full thing released in just 2 weeks
Legit sociopaths wrote this show possessing no self-awareness. I've seen fanfic less self-insert power fantasy with more character driven arcs showing genuine change than the trite this show crapped out.
>>149279334"okay" compared to what? It's most obvious comparison is going to be MCU Iron Man.
>What went wrong?
From what I've seen they have gone out of their way to course correct other diversified legacy characters as they have been adapted for the movies, like Ms. Marvel and Miles Morales.
But this show seems like it barely veered away from Bendis' poorly received story outline for the character.
>>149279243 (OP)Nobody likes a villain that thinks she's a hero.
Notice how Zeke Stane has more morals than fucking Riri?
>Riri leaves a man to die in a oxygen depleted room

......So we're not going to talk about how her final suit is powered by demonic magic? A good writer would, you know, have it corrupt her and mutate her body into an unholy demonic fusion of flesh and steel but we can't even do cool shit that would fall in line with her clearly EVIL VILLAIN characterization
>>149279824Itโs boring and the plot is dumb thatโs what makes it mid
qrd on the behind the scenes? The show felt weirdly edited and paced, especially early on. It ends on a cliffhanger that will never be resolved which makes me think they thought it was gonna be a big hit, realized it won't be and re-edited what they could
>>149285367This has been on the shelf for about 3 years. It is a time capsule of really "Progressive" shit which audiences are now starting to shift away from. So between out of date political nonsense and several consecutive underperforming projects (not to mention a dramatic narrative shift because Johnathan Majors got fired as Kang and RDJ was written a check to come back to play as Doom), this series was very clearly heavily edited in a desperate attempt to save it. They knew it was bad, didn't want to sink more money into it, and that's why it was released almost all at once.
I'm questioning if they'll just pretend like it didn't happen like Eternals, yet keep like ONE thing from it (Mephisto) similar to how the dead Celestial was referenced in Brave New World
standard operating procedure of hiring little to no experience showrunners and a writing/producing staff who have politics as their top priority and a good story a distant second. This is the slop trash heap you end up with.
I cannot believe Ryan Coogler of Sinners film left his name with this project it'll just drag his name down just when he was getting hot in Hollywood.
>>149285473Maybe this was part of a deal with Disney so they wouldn't sue his ass for bailing with the Blade script and reworking it into Sinners. That film legitimately had costumes bought for the MCU Blade film, and MCU Blade was originally meant for that time period too.

>>149279243 (OP)>What went wrong? The only thing wrong with Streaming in general is the thinking that there can be several Debtflix's.
If you are doing streaming with some ulterior motive besides making money of subscriptions (and Disney might), then fine. Or if your business model is so stupendously profitable that you can dump billions into it frivolously like some small companies provide free coffee and snacks (Amazon, Apple), also fine.
It's killing Warner Brothers though.
How the hell did some rando even get to make a Stark-tech suit? Why is she magic now too?
They should've had that kid from IM3 use his workshop to cobble together a scrappy suit like the one Tony made in the cave, progressively improving it over the course of the show without outside help (showing he can be a Iron Man too or whatever)
>>149288337I hate that streaming killed episodic "villain of the week" capeshit. It just fucks with the pacing when all you have is a wannabe movie stretched for several hours.
Also "villain of the week" format helps with one thing, it helps to make the villain of the work seem more impressive, though there happen to be rare cases where an occasional episodic villains completely overshadows the main one. Crime procedurals get it right, out of many things Whedon got wrong it's one thing he actually got right, pre-Netflix shows got it right, streaming-based capeshit doesn't seem to.
>>149288424Hollywood is just chasing old trends, same as it ever was. What was novel 20 years ago is considered the new hip thing.
>>149286008No its very clearly satanic magic
>"You want to pull energy from the dimension that powers this fragment of the cloak, the very thing I told you was pure evil and shouldn't fuck with?.......OKAY!"
>>149288438I'm ok with a black "hero" pulling magic from Satan, though it might get you legal action from McFarlane.
>>149288457Difference is, Spawn is actually cool.
>>149288396>How the hell did some rando even get to make a Stark-tech suit?Contrived bullshit. This was made from a car btw. Which I don't know if writers know this, but modern cars are built like soda cans, intended to get crushed/folded to absorb impact from accidents. Even if its older, bullets go right through them, unlike what most see in movies.
>Why is she magic now too?Because the very thing that makes this field of science work is arc reactors, which again, the writers seem to forget that's the reason why they're not common in the MCU. Yet Riri trivializes this shit with "Hey I use solar power!" which very clearly shows the level of intellect the chucklefuck who wrote this is on. So apparently someone who claims to be smart as Starks swears up and down she doesn't have an arc reactor because "I can't afford to build one" even though the original was made from fucking missiles inside a cave. So to compensate she uses demonic magic to fuel the suit, which she doesn't even accomplish herself and has her contrived witch friend do. Which I'm glad magicians are so easy to find in the MCU now
>>149288460And Al actually knew he was making a satanic deal, not to mention knew what he was bargaining for. Riri is such a fucking idiot she casually forks over her soul, doesn't ask what the cost is, and thought she was asking for a goddamn AI but gets her actual friend back.
So you can't even say Riri committed a heroic sacrifice
>>149288460Spawn is just extra-sulky Batman.
>>149288488Anyone really CAN be Spider-Man!
>>149288478>This was made from a car btwWhat the fuck, cars are just a bunch of aluminum, that's not material you can build a suit out of. You can't turn a Nissan into metal gauntlets with repulsor jets in them, that is ridiculous.
>>149288478>"Hey I use solar power!"For the suit? Has anybody ever used a solar charger before? They're not fast nor powerful, you have to leave your panel out in the sun for hours just to charge a phone.

>>149288553The solar power nonsense was the writer trying to be clever/pro green energy but lacked the basic understanding of how much solar power you need to do anything, while also being so stupid not recognizing that if it were so easy to power a suit every fucking country would have these by now for a new arms race. The magic thing is one half trying to compensate for her own stupidity to power her stupid suit, other half "I have to fight fire with fire!" trope since Hood is a magic powered bad guy.
Everyone is still scratching their heads wondering why the fuck Mephisto was used here and not WandaVision or Multiverse of Madness. Both of those scripts easily allow for a Mephisto Faustian deal
>>149286152How does Riri even trick Parker with an illusion/hologram when he physically touching her? How does she imitate an explosion from nothing?

>>149288653Why did she continue to run down the street instead of darting off to the right onto the sidewalk to escape the drag queen?
Nobody asked for Ironheart. She's not even worthy of any kind of a witty comment.
Nobody asked for Mephisto outside of normies who only know of him because they've heard of few shitty stories and thought he's a big deal.
Nobody asked for Hood. Few people who care about him and aren't Brian Michael Bendis, only do so for one MAX mini where he's a protagonist. Otherwise his biggest contribution is fuel for the "Tigra is a jobber" meme.

It's actually crazy how many problems are solved by simply embracing the fact that she's a supervillain. Also evolving and doubling down into it could result in something actually cool. Imagine Riri's suit further becoming demonic as time goes on, and her eventually being unable to get out of it
>>149290723I think they are maybe turning her into an anti hero like Venom
>>149290762No, they clearly were trying to play it straight. Also you're not understanding how a fucking anti-hero works. An anti-hero does morally questionable things to achieve a greater good. Riri doesn't have those qualities, so let's put away that stupid excuse
You guys sure like this villain headcanon
>>149290880It's not really headcanon, it's an observation and criticism to illustrate just how fucking terrible this show is constructed. We know she's not in-canon really a supervillain, but her actions are extremely concerning and it is nigh impossible to like this person
>>149290723More would be solved by breaking the story up into three parts and strip out the magic finale.
Part 1 - Riri at MIT part of a team of grad students trying to break the Stark Enigma or some other sciencey name that boils down to reverse engineering his tech and trying to produce suits, Riri invents her AI here and leaves MIT when some generic evil company (maybe Roxxon) takes everything because they were funding the research and a portable Jarvis style AI bridges the gap between shitty knockoffs and real Armour
Part 2 - Riri falls in with the Hood crew believing them to be robin hood style vigilantes that can help her recover Natalie and at this point Riri should have some bashed together tech kind of like Tony in Iron Man 3
Part 3 - Hood crew does their obvious betrayal inside Roxxon (or wherever) and reveal they want to sell the tech to the highest bidder, give each member of the crew some piece of iron man style gear as a personal trophy/weapon, Riri manages to recover Natalie at the same time and uses Natalie plus evil company's facility to quickly turn a prototype suit into Ironheart version 1 and defeats the crew. Stinger at the end should be Valentine (Thunderbolts) showing up at the company to swing her big government dick around and use the tech to make Iron Patriot (with the next appearance of Thunderbolts in a movie being a big press conference introing Patriot).
Keep her brash and overconfident until the betrayal makes her realize that she needs to make responsible decisions like a real hero. Zeke should be introduced but as a setup for season 2 friend to enemy conflict (likely spurred on by Riri refusing to share the tech with him).
I just realized NATALIE is a failed attempt to mimic LYLA from Spider-Man 2099. You know, the sassy AI from Across The Spider-Verse everyone liked?

But watching BP2, It's clear that Coogler is forced to write her, and she ended up being a nothingburger. Not bad, but not worth talking aboot either. >>149296459Marvel's kind of tricky with concepts like that because you can create a clone with memories, if the memories are good enough then the soul automatically returns from the afterlife, and if the memories aren't good enough then the clone will go on to develop its own soul. >>149298818>>149298822I'm going to go to bat here, the retardation of writing in the Jessica Jones show is completely different thing than the issues the book has. S1 of the tv show is basically a the survivor of a serial killer spending 9 episodes going "I can fix him" about the killer while he's actively killing others until she finally gets around to killing him like everyone else in her life suggested from the outset. And, damned by faint praise, that's not in the book.
>>149298870she said tony had more money than her.
>>149298869You can buy palladium, it's about $1200 per ounce right now. You can also extract it from scrap electronics and catalytic converters.
>>149298871It was more about "MUH HOPE" with trying to redeem Purple Man for like half an episode but it was still retarded and worse than the book because Purple Man was a really stupid villain who kept getting easily captured but escaped due to dumb luck or characters being somehow stupider. And every character kept making negative IQ decisions to drag the plot further.
It's like they wanted to do what Daredevil did with Kingpin but failed because
A) Purple Man is simply nowhere near as intelligent and calculating as Kingpin. And honestly, not as intimidating either, powers or not.
B) Kingpin also had an entire network of criminals working for him, so the serialized nature was downplayed because Matt was still going up against villains of the week instead of Fisk every episode.
>>149298901I guess the Iron Man armor isn't that impressive if it's that cheap to make. you know what's actually impressive? how Riri managed to build her own armor without Stark billions and without an arc reactor.

>>149279243 (OP)If you're intimidated by a strong female lead, then yes, this show is not for you.
And before you call me a "Redditor", just know that it's actually called "being a decent person".
>>149299149>he's using origin stories nowwhat's the gotcha here? if Riri was in the same situation then ofc she could build the same armor and escape, arc reactor or not. she already did.
She's like Shuri(movie) who can't even hold her own technical style.
>>149279243 (OP)Checking on what professional reviewers are saying, most of the negativity seems to come down to "it's the MCU" and "Riri's characterization is lacking." The MCU part would have been impossible to overcome in any case, there's no helping it. The part about Riri's character is a little iffier since reviewers can't seem to agree whether it's the writing or the delivery or both. But even the people writing positively about Riri and the show, can't seem to muster much excitement for other characters and elements of the story.
I guess secondary to the above I've seen a few mentions of the pacing being too slow or the tone being too dreary. Even then the themes developed through the story seem to have garnered interest even when the execution had people split.
>>149287445ok, the part where the guy disappeared is hilarious.
>>149299708>Riri's characterization is lackingSo it is faifthful to the source material!
>>149298810Shouldnt that be an automatic ticket to heaven when that person is collateral damage?
>>149299920They could've at least cribbed the characterization from Zub/Eve and have her brash overconfidence get treated like a flaw.
>>149300691There's a Heaven in the MCU?
>>149279243 (OP)>written during early 2020s when cancerous diversity and race baiting shit was near its peak>about a character that was already reviled and did extremely poorly in comic sales and general pop culture presence>while the MCU was still reeling from its inability to properly plan or execute a single show or movie following Infinity War>written by someone who had limited experience making shows or movies, with the oversight of nine executive producers who were all retarded enough to think any part of this show's concept was a good idea>finished in 2022>frantically edited and reshot, and released last minute in 2025No part of this was a good idea and they did it anyways, and when people pointed out how stupid that was and how bad it looked, they cried "REVIEW BOMBING!!" and nudged their journo slaves to pen a bunch of articles about racism.
>>149287642The writers, producers, and directors themselves are low IQ, undiagnosed psychopaths who have been seething for their entire lives that their retarded psychopath beliefs aren't validated by society, but they frame it as racism and oppression and fascism. So instead of just being angry that they don't get their way all the time and that people face consequences for their actions, they personally reframe their malicious, evil behavior as righteous outrage at injustice and bigotry.
>>149299282She isnt intimidating at all though...
>The climax is Ironheart ripping off some guys Hood
I guess you could say Hood got circumsized
The only reason Fiege didnt shitcan this with the other Chapek greenlit MCU projects is that he was worried about looking anti woke
>>149279243 (OP)It was fine. Mid. Overhated.
I like that they let her become a villain. Instantly made her better than the Bendis version.
>>149279243 (OP)>What went wrong? They made a show about fucking Ironheart.
>>149301148MCU really can't do satisfying fight scenes, can they?
Winter Soldier for movies and Daredevil for TV respectively were major flukes.
And fuck it, I liked The Incredible Hulk Abomination fight but that was so long ago, before MCU was even properly realized.
>>149279300Clown having the hots for Han Solo
>>149284486One week if you wanna get technical
>>149285013Nah, that's bullshit. A well written delusional villain is one of the most fun things you can have.
Black People Grievances: Superhero Version is just not fun for anybody.
>>149285367>>149285443It's very clear by the way it ended(Riri working on the garage by herself and it's all cold gloomy and gray, as opposed to bright sunny and loud when all her friends and family were helping her out) that it's the same deal as in Wandavision; Riri is stuck in a pocket dimension.
From there the MCU could retire her permanently or pull her out of their ass when they need a demonic Iron Man armor, or a friend for Shuri to hang out with or when 3 years from now the latests shitty disney+ show needs to artificial hype.
>>149287642If you've ever in your life interacted with an ugly black american woman then you know just how fucking detestable and insufferable they are. Ironheart's comics and the show are trying to convince you those are actually colorful and vibrant personality traits instead of massive redflags because Bendis is the kind of cuck who not only adopts kids but makes sure it's black kids he's adopting so people can ass-kiss him over how virtuous he is.
There' a reason black women are on the bottom of the deserability scale on every single dating app, even the gay ones.
>>149288478>her contrived witch friend do>her mother literally dropped out of magic school to be a single mother>then developed her own branch of magic>Black Girl Magic is an actual thing in the MCU
>>149279334>A middling to okay showIt fucking wishes it was middling to okay, are you retarded?
>>149293428The most cringey scene I found was them trying hard to use Docctor Strange references for selling the magic stuff
>>149301624MCU doesn't do well-written villains.
>>149302113>NOOO DORMAMMU IS TOO COOL FOR US>LET'S USE MEPHISTO INSTEAD
>>149302124>>NOOO DORMAMMU IS TOO COOL FOR USBudget would be the biggest concern desu
>>149296041I think they'll use him as the MCU's "eraser"
Do you need to quickly a character out of the MCU because its didn't catch on and/or the actor is being a diva? Oh yeah he signed a contract with Mephisto off-screen, sad stuff
>>149298869>randomize filenameAnd that's why anons are wary of MCU shills
>>149302124>>149302133They even try to sell him as a weak bitch compared to Mephisto
>Door Moo Moo? who?
>>149296041Doomsday maybe
>>149300811It is. Many characters point out that however noble her intentions her, she is almost as much driven by ego and grief and makes bad decisions as a result.
is it true that this show was written during the big progressive craze from 2020 to around 2023 and that's why it's so bad
>>149302274Far be it from me to try to make Mephisto cool, but he just looks like your average everyday hipster. It's not even about him using a human disguise, I can live with him not being a big red devil 24/7. But I expected something more grandiose.
He looks like he's about to ask me if the Starbucks coffee is sold around here.
>>149302274Mephisto should've really been saved for a Dr Strange in Vegas movie.
>>149302113This scene was exactly how I imagined redditors talk. It's uncanny.
>>149287437It got billions of views! A massive success and an unrelated note canceled immediately
>>149302006I think Sonia Denis is pretty. I will not be taking criticism or commentary.
>>149304212You better be black and/or a dyke
>>149287445Wizard?!
>>149287968She killed one of the Pillar Men from Jojo. Sick bitch. I hate her so much.
>>149288870If any CWfags are still alive on this board, requesting the "heroic music playing" webm of Reverse-Flash suiting up.
Seems appropriate.
>>149304971Maybe you can find it from an archive if you remember the thread it was posted in
Blood Sibs are cute.
I like how Mephisto knew about Riri from the start and only used Parker to get close to her. he plays the long game.
>>149302113Was Riri's mom in Black Panther? Because there's noway you get Cree Summers and have her as some side character? There's just no world where I wouldn't give her the main "mother" role.
