Why didn't you tell me how good this is? And why didn't the Mickey strip do more long arcs like this?

The Mickey strip is like all long arcs like this though? At least Gottfredson's era

This is unironically a better story then any single story Donald has every appeared in, even from Barks or Rosa
No one told you because Mickey is usually shit and boring and he hasn't built out his own comic universe as directly as Donald, so it doesn't get the autism circlejerk as duck comics too. But he managed to make an even more engaging story while handicapped with having to use Mickey

There's a lot to be said for putting a cheerful character in a mystery noir type of story with an element of supernatural menace. It's like chocolate and peanut butter. I think Mickey would have established a better cultural footprint if they'd stuck him in more of these slightly creepy and uncanny scenarios, to set him apart from the big Barksian adventures of Donald and co.

Unfortunately because Mick became the mascot they were never going to let him keep the more serious and darker content, nor develop his personality from it
I've always envisioned if they kept Oswald he could have fit the reigns of this type of darker content for comics an animation in place of Mickey, or even do so right now

I agree, unfortunately. The game Epic Mickey shows they're willing to experiment (and Kingdom Hearts to an extent), but for any kind of serial format Disney prefers Mickey be as anodyne as possible.

They're annual events, actually.

Frequently, the Blot, Pete and the Beagle Boys even team up. Sometimes the events are just them all getting together to stage child-friendly versions of classic dramas though.

Mickey Mystery was a thing. US Disney cucked them, but even the cucked follow-up series "Ein Fall für Mickey" still had people trying to feed Mickey in a wood chipper more than once.
