I don't think his death matters, it's just a legitimately good movie. There's no snarky jewish sitcom writing, it has humor but it's placed where it should be, drama isn't undercut, it doesn't talk down to its audience like MCU films do or have the pacing of an ADHD aderall zoomer that needs fucking dance scenes and tiktok references to come out of nowhere

Brandon Lees death was very like, just a shitty thing. It's not romanticized like fucking Kuck Gobang with a murder mystery plot or Heath Ledger with his "he was driven crazy by the role!" shit
Anonymous No.149297659 [Report]
>>149297565
Both Brandon and Bruce dying while young is definitely the source of some romanticization, and even conspiracy theories. I wouldn't say it has no barring in how the movie is remembered, but I'd agree it's a great movie regardless of his unfortunate death.

90s capeshit > MCU capeshit

The Rocketeer
Dick Tracy
Flawed but interesting: The Phantom and The Shadow

The Crow
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990
Burton's Batman and Batman Returns
Batman Forever
Mask of the Phantasm

BLADE
Men in Black (technically)
The Mask
Darkman should get an honorable mention
And that's not even getting into guilty pleasures like Tank Girl, Spawn or Mystery Men

The only things that truly eclipse that decade were Raimi's Spider-Man movies, Nolan's Batman trilogy, Sin City, GDT's two Hellboy movies, and Singer's first 2 x-men movies. Ang Lee's Hulk was a failed but interesting experiment.

I mean so is sin city and both hellboy movies and basically every indie comic movie. MCU is CGI trash and DC is just.... DC(ignoring the dark night which was ludokino but it had/s nothing to do with DC).

Honestly tho if it wasn't for Lee catching a bullet and the story being on every news channel advertising the movie like crazy. It wouldn't be a hit or even a cult classic, yeah I'm saying it shoot me like Lee.

Its sad seeing whats happened every time they try making another crow film. Even most the comics are really bad, shits sad cause the concept is cool.

I can't rain all the time ;-; we'll get gothic ludokino one more time right guys?

I just pray the next crow movie isnt about some tranny mumble "emo" rap faggotree about killing some (((white))) evil alt-right nazi realtor who set a building on fire because the owner didnt want to sell and it killed a dude and his GF soon to be wife. Causing him to become the crow and start killing said evil nazis working at the realtor company and its affiliates. And the final fight takes place on (not) trump tower during a massive protest about gentrification&immigration. As wigger emo crow sadboys mumble raps on fent (not) trump fires off his guns missing every shot. Gets picked up and throw off the building landing on a bunch of riot police&ice officers. Somehow lives only for the crow to rip him apart and set him on fire.

And like the movie ends with a mumble emo version burn but its 80% rewritten lyrics and 95% of the """music"" is rewritten minus one 10 second sample thats played over and over again

People still care about mumble/emo rap right my fellow goyim?
kids like skinny white faggots covered in face tats barely conscious after shooting fent&xanax for the 9th time by 8pm even tho they have been awake since 1pm. Right my fellow goy teenages? Shredder was the villain of the 1st issue of the TMNT comic, appeared to die at the end, but had just returned in the most recent issues around the time the cartoon started. The people making the cartoon weren't in the wrong to have reached the conclusion of Shredder being the main villain. The reveal that the returned Shredder was actually a clone made of worms didn't come until at least a year after the cartoon had started. I don't know if Eastman or Laird have ever talked about whether they'd always planned for Shredder's return to be a fakeout or if it's a decision they made later, but their dislike of the cartoon is well-documented enough that them making the returned comic-Shredder just a clone who gets killed again could well have been a contrarian reaction to the cartoon making him the main villain who's in almost every episode.

Some people will have entered adulthood and never lived to see a popular culture where blockbuster cape movies were not the biggest movers in cinema. I don't want this to be what movies are like.

It's cool but a lot more niche than the movie is. The movie basically takes a heavily stylized, dreamy, weird comic and condenses it into a normal length action revenge movie. The general story, spirit, and themes are the same, even some exact moments, but the delivery is very different. The comic isn't really a superhero style action comic, it drifts off more into just melancholy artsy stuff

No. He was a normal ninja master/crime lord who was played completely straight. He just wasn't supposed to last past his original appearance.
Admittedly he did have a cool design and I guess his ties to Splinter and Hamato Yoshi made him compelling enough material for cartoon writers to turn into a main villain.
>>149310345
There is a "Shredder has been shredded" quip, but the death itself was perfectly normal.
It wasn't even particularly anticlimatic. It's not like he slipped on a banana peel or some shit.
Shredder and his ninjas fight the Turtles, he kicks Turtles' asses until they realize that teamwork is better than trying to take somebody who has more skill and experience than them 1v1 and eventually beat him. Shredder tries to blow them up rather than admit defeat, but fails and dies alone.
It's a perfectly normal pulp one-off villain death. I don't see how it's a joke at all. The first movie mostly got it right. Yeah, he is an important villain due to his backstory with Splinter but not too important to die (sequels are shit anyway and I don't consider them canon, fuck you. Super-Shredder was raped by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the sweltering summer of '91), he's an intimidating presence and wasn't played for a joke but wasn't wanked to hell and back as the SCARIEST VILLAIN EVER (hello TMNT 2003 and its "Shredder is actually an alien intergalactic conqueror who's feared everywhere, etc etc etc" bullshit)

Mid 00s is when the 00s became it's own thing. Scene took over, metalcore replaced nu-metal which was a late 90s holdover, and emo was the 00s version of pop punk, it was distinct enough. baggy cargo pants and frat boy hairdos replaced with sideswept bangs and skinny jeans

>>149332516
Spawn has a fitting ost for the time and tone of the movie, The Crow is like a mixture of actual gothy flavors and edgy early 90s heavy stuff, which I think also fits it, since it dials up the action and badassery of the very gothy comic but still keeps those melancholy tones and themes

Spawn the movie was made for the edgelord 12 year old in 1997, and the soundtrack pretty perfectly fits that, it's as of the times as it's own vibe featuring essential 12 year old angry boycore like Korn and Manson, mashed up with electronic/dj remixes which is about as datedly 1997 as you can be

This movie along with other things like cartoon intros from X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and MMPR pretty much informed my eventual music taste in hard rock, heavy metal, and hair bands when I hit my teen years. I remember feeling super excited like "I found the music I liked as a kid that's nothing like what's on the radio anymore"

Likewise The Crow was a Halloween staple for me, if I was lazy in those later final years of trick or treating I pretty much just cycled between Gene Simmons or The Crow makeup, or throwing on a Jason mask
