I think what's going on there is that it trips all his body's pain sensors, as electrification really fucking hurts. Every fucking Superman film has played down his powers in comparison to the comics.
Even the comics play down Superman's full powers to make regular action scenes more compelling.

The only new thing is how Superman seems to be shown, at least in that one scene, feeling plenty of pain.
Often he doesn't feel that.
But that's not a very big change. It has it's upsides, making most action scenes perhaps have more tension. It also makes him seem a bit less 'super.'
