Why is this dude never really brought up?

Marvel doesn't like to remind people that their premier female superhero that they worked so hard to push as a feminist icon for years just inherited her whole schtick from a man. Which is why they made movie Mar-Vell a woman.

What is there to explain? Only memorable thing about Mar-Vell is that he died of cancer and who his children are. Mar-Vell wont even be able to use the Captain Marvel name if he is bought back.
