I'm aware of the quote, and it's still a strange view to have. C.S. Lewis's views could only come about by "moral busybodies", and his protestant faith relied on the use of "moral busybodies" to proselytize. Is that a defense of them? No, but its a reality that all societies throughout all of history have socially created a certain moral propriety, even going as far to enforce it. I'm not in favor of the enforcement, but I don't deny the reality that a moral propriety exists and that people will rebuke, even publically denounce, a given thing. Imagine twitter didn't even exist. I don't think most people would think kindly of this, and I wouldn't want people who did.
