Wtf /co/ I thought anime would never surpass cartoons.
You all lied to me.
Why does the newer generation skip out on western cartoons and instead go straight for weeb shit?

Every other thread on here is about how cartoons are dying. They literally don't make that many of them anymore and the few they do make are not very appealing to younger generations. Or any generation, really. I generally prefer cartoons over anime (when they're well made), but it's the sad truth.

It's weird how cartoons really are the 1 medium that is LITERALLY dying as in the networks have such an incredible small output compared to even 10 years ago.

Because anime isn't filled with anti male rehtoric, anime has actual stories and doesn't insult it's audience.
People want good stories and funny comedy and anime is the only animation medium providing that.
If you make a shitty product people are gonna flock to something else and no amount of insults and gaslighting will change that.
It's just the 2000s all over again, anime is mainstream and people want it over cartoons.

Like anime in the 2000s and 90s left a mark on Western culture.

That's not what it said, although I wouldn't be surprised if anime had more of a presence than cartoons on Netflix: most of the good cartoons that weren't theirs on the platform got scooped up by their IP holders to show on their own platforms, and the original ones produced by Netflix all get canceled no matter how successful they are.

Western animation kinda died by the end of the 2010s when it fell instead of flew with shows like Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, and Svtfoe all failing to deliver in some way while also alienating or fracturing their audience. Interest doesn't really exist anymore especially among teens, and theres much less money in television versus 10 year ago.

Some Anon ran the numbers awhile back and, not counting continuations or sequels, in the last few years, the entire western world puts out 20 animated series over the course of the typical year, and that's including obscure toddlerslop from South America. In the same span, still not counting continuations or sequels series, Japan puts out about 5 times that in just shounen, not even factoring in the admittedly smaller but still present shouno, seinen, and josei demographics, and the kodomo demographic basically acts as containment for 90% of toddlerslop.

Even without accounting for the bar being broadly higher due to the industry over there being less rotted out, the sheer number of series ensure you end up with a higher quantity and quality of shit to watch through sheer fucking numbers.

People has to remember that before Netflix become democratised, most normalfags didn't watched shows religiously. You were see as a geek just for that.
The later seasons of Game of Thrones made it more mainstream, then during COVID (and already in 2019), normalfags became aware of anime with the already popular Kimetsu no Yaiba.

As an ex-weeb (only watched and listened to japanese/asian media and music), I got interested into western (american and european) comics, cartoons, shows, movies and musics since 2018.
It's really not that different, honestly. Japan wins by numbers ans consistency by releasing series in a specific period; while cartoons, even back in the day, releases were all over the place. Also, there is a bit too much slice of life/adventure cartoons which make them less interesting.

/co/ has to expand their horizon to eurotrash comics and cartoons
>b... but...
No ifs or buts, if America isn't outputting what is required, then broaden the "west" to encompass Europe as well.

I kind of moved to anime and manga in the 2010s since the /co/ output felt extremely inferior in comparison. This was to be expected since AoT anime has been getting more and more popular.

Looking at the leaked art and story for Avatar: Seven Havens we can already tell that it's going to be bad, suffering from writers being too concerned about telling a progressive story or building a progressive world that they forget how to tell a good story and make a good action cartoon. So even when westerns try to mimic anime they get the shit wrong. Legend of Korra had the same issue. Cartoons lack the sense of adventure people get from anime. These things need to take risks, but western writers think risk is making a story with gay lovers and a female lead, instead of telling a story with original ideas and some muscle, and not realizing that their primary audience for this shit is (young) men and it will always be young men.

the thing about anime is you can find one about any topic. If you want to watch an anime about golf it exists, if you want cooking it exists, if you want heartbreak its there. There's so much variety to choose from compared to cartoons where a majority of it follows the same structure aside from a few standouts

>Why does the newer generation skip out on western cartoons and instead go straight for weeb shit?

Why anime is better than cartoons
>Better writing. It has a variety of stories that is not constrained to the tropes of one genre. Anime is a hybrid mix of comedy, horror, porn, and action as opposed to being entirely one or another. An anime story about selling wine in anime can have a cool chase scene, funny comedy gag, murder mystery, and be a mob film at the same time. (Baccano)
>Easier to invest in the story. Resolves its story within 1 or 2 seasons as opposed to being canceled like Final Space and Infinity Train.
>Progressive instead of conservative, has female/gay/trans/brown leads since the 80s. People like that inclusiveness because it is done without being demeaning or annoying to their main audience.
>Better art and storyboards done with basic film school techniques and >3 point perspective.
>Better animation, plays around with limited animation in a creative way as opposed to just only holding character frames or tweening it.
>Better music and sound design. There's no stock music, it's composed like a film by having licensed music and original serious OSTs.
>More sincere instead of ironic, the characters take their setting seriously regardless of how stupid it looks. Self-depreciation loses its touch if you're the 10000th white dude making fun of it.
>Appealing instead of ugly.
>Better action scenes.

TADC and Hazbin Hotel follows the above and that's why people like it.

It is also not one-note like cartoons. It's multiple genres combined into one. I thought that Gundam 0079 was going to be a show about a kid blowing shit up with a giant robot, instead it is drama with comedy sprinkled in-between.
