God damn this movie was good
>>149323086 (OP)a lot better than I thought it would be honestly. I saw Man of Steel yesterday just so I could compare and it was extremely jarring watching Superman spend the entire Kaiju fight saving people. Mr. Terrific was pretty cool too.
>>149323086 (OP)Outdated y would the big fight of a Superman movie be a normal ginger
Making Jor-El and Lara straight up evil was an interesting choice but I don't hate it.
I thought the twist would be that Luthor faked the message, but thematically I understand why they went that way.
Also who else was there on the Hall of Justice banner? I only noticed wildcat
>>149323086 (OP)I'm seeing it Sunday. I hope its a fun time. Next movie I want is Worlds Finest with Batman/Superman against Joker/Lex
>>149323162I'm pretty sure Nicholas Hoult said he wants to see his Lex team up with The Joker
>>149323154>Making Jor-El and Lara straight up evil was an interesting choiceOkay now I'm worried. I know Kryptonians were assholes but wasn't Jor-El the exception?
>>149323154I actually liked it desu. The Kents for all intents and purposes are his real parents anyway over two people he's never even met. I was expecting that to be the twist too but I'm glad they didn't, felt like it would've been cheap.
>>149323185No clue. There's some ambiguity over whether Luthor corrupted it I assume but the movie leans pretty heavily on Jor-El actually being evil. It's not clear if it's all Kryptonians or just him. Supergirl shows up and isn't evil, just kind of a wreck.
Based on what I've heard of the plot for all the talk of Silver Age and Morrison influences it sounds like a Byrne story with Krypto and the Fortress added in.
>>149323224Everything goes back to Byrne to the chagrin of all pre-Crisis fags
>>149323224Pretty much yeah. Very heavy emphasis on Superman being a human with powers vs an alien, and the Kents being his "real" parents.
Is Kelex or The Zoo in The Fortress of Solitude?
Me and my squad are going next week...can't fucking wait...
>>149323257not that I saw. Not that much of the Fortress is shown honestly that wasn't in the trailer.
Any chance they'll introduce Mercy Graves later or are we stuck with Eve?
>>149323257They didn't show it but an intergalactic zoo was mentioned, it sounded more like something Superman just knew about rather than something he worked with closely
>>149323274I'm seeing it with my gays this weekend then my bros next weekend
Where's the full plot rundown?
>>149323281Eve betrays Luthor
Considering how much Gunn loved All Star I'd say Nasthalthia has a real shot
>Eyebrow, Lexie. Eyebrow.
>>149323289leaks have been out for a while and they're accurate
>>149323180thank god battinson isnโt in this universe because barry keoghanโs joker fucking sucks. nicholas houltโs lex teaming up with a classic silver age style joker would be a treat.
>>149323289Luthor is manipulating political tensions in the vague middle east/Eastern Europe so that he has an excuse to turn the government on Superman. He uses information he steals from the Fortress of Solitude to turn the public on Superman too. Luthor is a mad scientist with a clone of Superman and a cyborg bodyguard at his side and an inter dimensional prison he keeps his enemies in. He locks Superman in there, but with the help of fellow prisoner Metamorpho and Krypto, Superman escapes. The pocket dimension begins collapsing, and Superman has to work with the "Justice Gang" to seal the dimension, end the war, and put Luthor behind bars.

Unexpected but welcome
Too bad they made Superman kind of a dumbass, I liked the movie otherwise. Hope he gets some of his wisdom as the universe progresses
>>149323311I know Bill Skarsgard wants to play Joker
If I'm Gunn I'd just cast Pattinson as a "new" Batman in this universe and tell Matt Reeves to shove it
>>149323330He's only 30 in this movie and in the modern era that's pretty young, he's definitely not the "Dad who's seen it all" from All Star
>>149323180>>149323311>>149323339Let's keep The Batman away from this and its own thing. Not fantastical enough for this canon. But I would like to see a less edgy yet still threatening Joker team up with Lex given the golden contrast in personalities
Bros, I have a question. Why isn't Mr. Terrific as popular as other heroes? I genuinely liked him but I had no idea he even existed before this movie. He makes a better cyborg than the actual cyborg.
>>149323339So is Bill Skarsgard just going to be typecast as evil clowns now?
>>149323375He's often overshadowed by Batman as the "smart guy without powers" on the team. He'll probably get a boost after this movie though. But yeah he fits on the JL way better than Cyborg.
>>149323375He's mostly "guy in the chair". Being 3rd smartest man on the planet just makes him a coordinator

>Was there gays
>was there girl boss moments
>was there colored people everywhere
>Was there a trans flag in the background or some color that could be seen as trans representation
>Was there any kind of political nonsense that /col/ will try to claim this movie has?
>>149323224Itโs Byrne with mild Silver Age elements which muddles the โimmigrantโ angle Gunn is supposedly going for
>>149323411>gaysno
>girl boss momentsnot sure what you mean by this. I'd say no? But Lois does have a lot to do in the movie, but it's done with her using her investigative powers and getting Mr. Terrific to help out than like, "A GIRL CAN DO THIS TOO SILLY BOYS" like Captain Marvel or something.
>colored peopleMr. Terrific has a pretty significant role, though I don't think it came at the expense of Superman.
>trans flagnope
>political nonsenseNot really? I mean there's a generic geopolitical situation of a larger country involving a smaller one that Superman wants to stop, which you could take to be Israel/Palestine or Russia/Ukraine if you wanted to but desu I think it's just supposed to be saying that one country invading a smaller one and killing everyone in it is a bad thing and it doesn't go all that much more into detail than that.
Superman villains I'd like to see in this universe

Its a fucking hit
>>149323432we're way too overdue for Braniac being in a movie.
>>149323382I hope so because it would be hilarious to see how many he can play
>>149323429>which you could take to be Israel/Palestine or Russia/Ukraine if you wanted toI've seen people saying it's Anti-Israel but given that the movie started shooting in December 2023 and the script was likely finalized before the genocide in Gaza even started I doubt it was intentional. Especially since CIA hatchetman Tom King consulted on the script.
>>149323432The ending definitely sets up Ultraman as Bizarro Superman, he gets sucked into a parallel dimension with strange cubes and mutant freaks
>>149323510tbf...the stuff that Isreal is doing is not new, we just now have celphones.
>>149323086 (OP)I'm working through the weekend so I won't get to see it until Monday or Tuesday. disappointing, but I'd rather wait than deal with a packed theater on day 1 regardless.
You know I don't want to get ahead of ourselves with sequel talks BUT you could probably do a Superman 2 based off of "Whats So Funny About Truth Justice And The America Way?" but The Elite is comprised of Superman villains Manchester Black convinced to join up with him. Like the big fuck you is "Hey look, Superman, I convinced half your rogues to turn over a new leaf" when in reality they're all still bullies. Livewire, Parasite, Atomic Skull, and Metallo would all work well with Manchester
>>149323523I know, I just don't think Hollywood bigwigs were even pretending to give a shit before public opinion shifted over Israel.
>>149323339>If I'm Gunn I'd just cast Pattinson as a "new" Batman in this universe and tell Matt Reeves to shove itand if I was Pattinson I'd tell Gunn to go fuck himself
>>149323547My dad never took me to movies opening night for this reason lol
So can someone explain The Justice Gang to me? I know they're funded by Maxwell Lord. Are they just a proto-Justice League that isn't quite getting off the ground? Is the implication that Superman will form the Justice League later and privatize the organization?
>>149323551I just don't think we need another movie explaining to audiences why Superman is cool, it's time to just show not tell. Would have worked for the first movie though
>>149323563Pattinson is openly very frustrated that he can't play a young Batman anymore
>>149323577I think it's the second one yeah
I think the team will end up being
>Superman>Batman>Wonder Woman>Hal Jordan>Flash>Hawkgirl>Mister Terrific>Metamorpho
>>149323581I wouldn't say its "explaining Superman is cool". I see it more as the fallout of his legacy, someone taking all the wrong lessons from his work and twisting his methods
>>149323577Its the Ultimen from the cartoons, and i think it going to end up being The Terrifics instead of a league.
>>149323605So drop Guy, Hawkgirl, then add Plas and Phantom Girl? Okay
I've seen people saying the contrast in tones between Pattinson Batman and Corenswet Superman would be great but I can't see Pattinson wanting to be locked into that many movies so it's never happening, not to mention Reeves.
>>149323630People are just dumb and see the most relevant/new thing and think it has to connect. Similar to how first exposure to a character to them means "only this actor can pull the character off" like with Wolverine. The Batman can be its own thing. I want to see a new Batman for this DCU canon, one with more fantastical tools
>>149323615I think Guy and Hankgirl are replacing them...mostly because PG would need the Legion and Plas is probably gonna get a show or something.
>>149323154I don't think it's intended to be straight up evil, more misguided that leads to evil. Sorta like what Bendis tried to do with Jor-El's opinion on humanity during his era. But at the same time is Bendis really what you want to be basing your adaption on?

which is weird because I though a Plastic Man movie was leaked as being in the talks, and he's usually a part of that team. maybe they'll have 5 members instead of 4 to make it more distinctive compared to the fantastic four, who knows?

>>149323708>maybe they'll have 5 members instead of 4 to make it more distinctiveOr they won't have Plastic Man at all
>>149323086 (OP)Astonishing how a movie that wants to cricle jerk itself so hard about being leftist has some of the basic centrist political takes possible. 6/10 can we just make a Superman movie without directors needing to suck themselves off.
>>149323708>>149323767I think Plas is way too much similar to Mr Fantastic...he was gonna get nixed either way i think,
If Gunn really wants to differentiate his DCU from the MCU, I wouldn't be surprised if having a rotating ensemble for the teams would be the method he goes.
King Shark's already on the Suicide Squad and Creature Commandos

>>149323811I'm gonna go ahead and say they're not adapting her kek
>>149323793The entire point of the team is to poke fun at The Fantastic Four. You gotta have Plas just for his team chemistry/dynamic.

>>149323972Considering she's getting her own cartoon it's probably just through sheer synergy
>>149323972Maybe she could make it on the team. I don't really see us getting a Justice League movie for a couple of years. Think Gunn's realized that'll be the big in the back of the pocket event film after something like Worlds Finest. And by then, most of the main stay actors so far will be pushing mid 30's, maybe even late 30s which makes younger characters easier to appear on the roster.

>>149323429>not sure what you mean by thisI'm guessing he's asking how they handle Lois
>>149324378Yeah but idk what he considers "girl boss". If he means woman doing anything important then yes, Lois is a major character and actually does more in this movie than she does in any other Superman movie. If she means she's hyper-competent and belittles Superman to show how women are the real heroes or whatever, then no. I'd say she's like Gwen Stacy in the Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie minus her dying obviously, in that she helps out and supports Superman but doesn't really take his spotlight.
>>149324421Alright, that sounds about how she was handled in TAS, and a lot of people are saying this movie feels like TAS already

Is Hawkgirl like she was in the DCAU? Super masculine?
>>149325740Kind of? She doesn't do all that much in the movie tbqh. Most of her dialogue is her telling Guy Garder that the Justice Gang is a lame name, and then she hits some stuff with her hammer and screeches like a hawk which sounds silly on paper but I thought sounded kind of cool in the movie itself. She also kills an evil dictator guy who thinks she won't kill him because she's a hero to which she replies
>I'm not Supermanand drops him to his death.
>>149325759that last bit is something DCAU Hawkgirl would do
>>149325770yeah I would say she's pretty similar in personality to how she was in the DCAU now that I think of it.
So Supergirl shows up drunk? Like....how drunk?
>>149325817I'm not really sure if it's clear if she's full on drunk, or just kind of acts like that, or is hungover or what. She shows up for a 30 second scene at the end where she's out of it, crashes clumsily and kind of acts like a sorority girl and then plays with Krypto before flying off. Here it is in French.

>>149325843>>149325817Superman also mentions how she goes to party every weekend on planets with Red Suns presumably to set up WoT.
>>149323154>Invincible continues to toxically influence the Superman propertyFirst My Adventures With and now this. Kirkman really did win.
I was a doubter but...........now I'm really fucking hyped. This sounds aawesome
>>149325687The most baffling one to me is the Bizarro-like character in the Bizarro role that isn't actually Bizarro.
Why even have a retarded Superman clone at that point?
>>149325687I mean they can't call themselves the Justice League because they want to save that for when they actually make that movie with the main JL members it's not a sincerity afraid to use the name because it's corny deal.
>>149323154Gunn REALLY hates families characters are born into. His found family fetish is starting to get really gross.
Zod can take a break. Although Snyder was right that finding the next proper villain is difficult and things should probably be taken more extraterrestrial because heโs just too powerful of a character. The three that come to mind are Brainiac, Metallo, and Parasite. Of which Brainiac is the only one that feels like a complete screen presence. Metallo is an offshoot of Luthor and Parasite would just be a slump movie. Even with this whimsical version of Superman I donโt think characters like Toy Man and Weather Wizard can be done without blatantly nerfing Superman or making him retarded. In any case I donโt think weโre another โsoloโ Superman film for a while as Gunn is more interested in the DCU as a whole than the individual character.
>>149325456Has potential. Need to see her solo outing first. Also don't think her solo outing's gonna do well until it hits streaming.
>>149325982They could always just try and adapt For the Man Who Has Everything again.
>>149326005A kino story but itโs too โedgyโ and snydery from what audiences are supposedly clamoring for.
>>149326005They should at least wait until the new DCU Batman and Wonder Woman are established. That story hits harder when the Black Mercy attaches to Bruce and he envisions Thomas Wayne overtaking the mugger. Also would probably want to wait until Mongul crosses paths with Superman outside of that story
>>149323154I really dislike it and along with the overall trend to devalue Krypton as just the place where he was born. This insistence that he has to choose between Earth and Krypton is kinda asinine imo and makes Superman a less interesting character.
>>149325687>upcoming F4 movie refusing to just say Clobbering TimeI'm pretty sure he's going to say it. The main reason why he didn't in the trailer is because they are building up to it so fans can get excited when he does.
>>149326095Personally I never cared for it because Superman has never been to Krypton aside from when he was an infant and has no memory of it, nor was he even raised with its culture like a 2nd gen immigrant. I'm genetically Irish but if Ireland got blown up tomorrow I would mourn the loss of life, sure, but I wouldn't take it as if I lost my home.
Supergirl makes more sense to do the whole immigrant thing torn between two worlds imo.
>>149323086 (OP)Does Superman get called Superman a lot or does Gunn just do the usual superhero movie thing of everyone calling him by his civilian name? Like how they kept calling Iron Man by Tony or Stark instead of Iron Man throughout his MCU appearances. Or how Gunn himself used Quill instead of Star-Lord for much of his GotG trilogy.
TL;DR is he usually addressed as Clark or Kent rather than Superman?
>>149326135>Superman get called Superman a lotYes, by pretty much everyone aside from Lois and his parents. There's a scene where it's revealed the Justice Gang also knows his identity, but they still call him Superman in public.
>>149326005booooooring, you wanna do cosmic you do Kismet
>>149326053That story might just be too deep into the verse. The thing about live action is thereโs a finite amount of time. The MCU got to Thanos (a neutered one at that) in 10 years before it fizzled out. Likewise Gunn will only have 10 years before audiences get bored, and thatโs if the DCU is lucky and doesnโt fizzle sooner. Itโs still hard to say how this will pan out, Iโm skeptical. The clock starts ticking now and we probably arenโt going to get the Justice League INTRODUCTION until 2029 at the earliest. Gunn will be able to do one major villain (Darkseid, Brainiac, or Savage) and then the party is over.
Iโd love another DCAU that could thoroughly explore, DC and Young Justice scratched that itch for a little while but we all know what happened. Gunn doesnโt seem to keen on sharing studio resources with non DCU projects.
>>149326151Good. I fucking hate how ashamed live action superhero movies are of superhero aliases.
there is a brazilian project coming so maybe that means Fyre aka JLI down the line
>>149326132Superman/Superboy used to hang out on Krypton all the time, he even does it in this run back when Krypton would fade in and out of existence every so often and he had a ton of family.

>>149325843>Supergirl, a wholesome teen girl character, is now a 30 year old roastie party whoreFucking garbage
>>149326190We got thighs, so we had to make a compromise somewhere
>>149326189Yeah but he hasn't in forever and even when he did it was through time travel shenanigans which I always thought was kind of dumb. You can't have him be raised as an infant by the Kents and have him also casually hanging out on Krypton all the time too with wacky time travel stories, which make it feel like Krypton was never even destroyed at all really. Personally I'm fine with just giving the whole split heritage and immigrant angle to Supergirl. It makes more sense.
>>149325456After Ironheart, the Jewish gremlin in Cap 4, and the fat faces in Thunderbolts, this was a welcome surprise.
>>149326200>supergirl is a sorority girl slutkino
You want to know how good the movie was?
this was basically from the movie
If you like Byrne's run you are going to loved it
>>149326221really did feel extremely Byrne coded which is kind of ironic given it's the polar opposite of the movie titled Man of Steel.
>>149326207oh it's dumb as fuck, that's why it never happened post crisis except that one time with Braniac 13 but it was a simulation
but it did happen when the evil Bendis appeared
>>149326221Yeah, I've heard the movie described as if Byrne made Birthright.
>>149323429Thatโs surprising given how much of Peacemaker was him and Vigilante being bullied and talked down to by the plainclothes cast members.
>>149326132I think this changes significantly on account of Superman's demonstrable physical differences as a result of his heritage that aren't anyway comparable to being from an Irish background. Post Crisis attempt to flatten this by:
>making him a baby when he arrives on Earth >turning him into a mutant who gains his powers after puberty That aside the differences between him and everyone else are still stark and would encourage
To illustrate my father was Iranian but died when I was a baby. I have never been to Iran, was not raised with Iranian culture yet I still have an enormous affection for the country, firstly on account of my affection for my father as a figure in my life and also on account of the fact that my heritage is so demonstrably palpable in my body in comparison with all the other people around me. It's not a 1 to 1 corollary; having curly hair and a big nose isn't the same thing as being able to fucking fly. It's an even more starker contrast which would alienate Superman more.
John Byrne, who started all this off, made a similar point that you did based of his experience however I don't think moving from England to an essentially a colder English colony (Canada) is as stark a disruption as Superman would feel.
This is all beside the point as I like Supermans's attachment to Krypton for other reasons than "it makes psychological sense" (you can make lots of ideas make psychological sense, people are weird).
>>149326285Peacemaker is supposed to be a dumbfuck, and Vigilante even moreso. Superman not so much as he's very much painted as "in the right" in 90% of the movie. Even in the argument with Lois it's depicted more as conflicting, but equally valid takes than Lois getting one over on him. The only one who really talks down to him is Guy, who is clearly depicted as a bit of a blowhard.
>>149326294>physical differences as a result of his heritageBut that's not even really a Kryptonian thing because 99% of Kryptonians do not have his abilities, as they grew up and died on a planet with a red sun. His powers don't bring him any closer to Kryptonians. He could've just as easily been a mutant from Marvel with the same powers and he'd be the same person.
Even your example of being Iranian is different because you can relate to other Iranians, at least on some superficial level because they all look like you. Superman doesn't look like Kryptonians any more than he looks like a human, and Kryptonians wouldn't understand what it's like to have Superman's powers because they didn't have them.
>>149326309His powers are a result of his Kryptonian heritage regardless. His powers aren't incidental to his DNA, all Kryptonians are living solar batteries. It just so happens that the Krypton didn't have a young enough sun at that time to create a super society (though in some early versions it did). Taken all together, the circumstances of Superman's coming here and flourishing are so extraordinary, it doesn't make sense at all to me that he'd be like "don't care, USA USA."
>Kryptonians wouldn't understand what it's like to have Superman's powers because they didn't have themSee that's a good example why I like the idea of Superman identifying as Kryptonian. Superman feels a connection to Kryptonian survivors but do they feel the same way about him? Is he tainted in some way? It's just one small example but for me giving Superman some form of internal struggle (which is not decided easily by "Krypton was boring" or Jor El being evil) over his identity has more dramatic potential and makes him a richer character as opposed to one who just picks Earth because he was raised there.
And by "struggle," I don't mean angst and moping as you saw in Smallville all the time. It can remain implicit and be the more engaging for it.
>>149326536But 99% of Kryptonians don't know they're solar batteries and it doesn't impact their culture whatsoever. If you found a planet where humans can shoot fireballs, it wouldn't make you have a deeper connection to humanity because most humans cannot shoot fireballs. He can connect to Supergirl or Powergirl, sure, but not most Kryptonians just because of his powers. He has more of a connection to Wonder Woman than your average Kryptonian. I'm not saying he should be "USA USA" but it certainly makes sense that he'd say "Earth is my home, not Krypton," because it is.
I'm not sure why he would connect to Krypton aside from the very basic fact that he's biologically related to them, which feels boring. He has nothing in common with them in his personal life, culturally, even physically. It's by pure happenstance of his genetics.
>>149325868I don't think it's Invincible as much as it is the Boys that influenced this honestly. like I understand that Viltrum Empire is the obvious connection but the movie being positive and hopeful feels more like a response to The Boys show getting popular than Invincible (which despite the gore and violence is still an honest-to-god young superhero story)

>>149323086 (OP)>God damn this movie was good
so was Ultraman really played by Henry Cavill or was that just Snyderfag tiktokers cope
His Kryptonian heritage is still the source of his differences. Affection for a home country (or world) is not born out of a literal 1 to 1 set of shared commonalities but a shared origin point of the commonalities. Earth is his home, there isn't a mainstream version of Superman which would contradict that, but Krypton is still where he's from and that which makes him Superman. It's not incidental, it's absolutely fundamental to his whole character. It would be bizarre and at the very least incurious for him to have scant interest in it whatsoever.
I just fundamentally disagree that this "Earth First" Superman is a more interesting or convincing take on the character. It is far more boring to me, in that the end result of it is often the closing off of a whole part of the character's identity.

>>149327225Why waste Cavill on fucking notBizzaro when you can cast him as Kal-L?
Hell, bring in Rosenbaum as Alexander Luthor Jr. and Tom Welling as Superboy Prime
>>149323086 (OP)At first I was confused as to why All-Star Superman is the inspiration because the movie's premise seems to be more akin to What's So Funny About Truth Justice but after watching the movie I completely understand. It's so fuxkingzany and unrealistic and I love it. I mean ffs even current MCU feels more grounded. Now I'm interested at what DCU Batman can bring.
The most amazing part is that they nailed the wackiness element. I mean conpare this to the Flash where it tried to be fantastical but ended up looking dumb, but here? It just works.
>>149327248Tom Welling is too old to play Superbor-Prime, and Henry Cavill as Kal-L feels... wrong? I don't see him as the GA Superman-type but maybe Gunn can do it. I know this movie is doing it differently but I do think Cavill as Earth-3 Superman could be cool. or better yet, make him Cyborg Superman, definitely feels like a character Gunn would love to adapt.
>>149326214>supergirl is a sorority girl slutFor real, they basically spelled out thay she had orgies and such.
>>149324544it does feel like that's increasingly becoming a thing of the past, and Lois usually quickly figures out he's Superman. especially when she meets and interacts with Superman multiple occasions rather than just seeing him once or twice in action and not really making out his face, those are more believable situations for Lois not immediately realizing that Superman and Clark look identical.
>>149325982what about Livewire
>>149325687that's clearly because they want to save the actual Justice League for later with the real members. and the F4 thing is just marketing bullshit.
>>149325982Snyder wrote himself into a corner with all the talk about Superman being a God on Earth or whatever, it meant he could only go higher and higher and resort to using cosmic-scale JL villains rather than Superman's own rogues gallery here on Earth.
>>149326135that sounds like different cases desu, Tony being Iron Man is public knowledge in the MCU since the first film and he's too much of a celebrity superstar so he's gonna be called that by everyone over Iron Man. on the other hand, Star-Lord is obviously a corny name for a dude with twin blasters and a jetpack so again it makes sense to be called Quill almost all the time.
>>149323510I mean it's not like anti-Zionist movements in Hollywood only began in 2023, or that the Gazan genocide hasn't been happening for decades now
>>149324544Yeah I prefer the "love triangle" between Superman, Clark and Lois but it hasn't been a thing for decades now sadly and I don't think they'll ever bring it back in any adaptation due to it making Lois look stupid. Though there's a weird slight of hand that people play there where people are happy with maintaing the secret identity and everyone else looking retarded but not Lois for some reason.
>>149323563Pattinson is open to being in the DCU anon, he's more frustrated that Reeves took so long and that he's growing too old to keep playing the same young Bruce in the first movie
>>149327283>I don't see him as the GA Superman-typeBro what?
>>149327225Why would snyderfans want Cavill in a film which was made by cancelling the Cavill version so the director could make his vanity project?
Cameos like that might excite consoomers like you, but not me
>>149327382there's genuinely a bunch of Snydertards who believe Cavill and Gunn went behind SNyder's back to make Cavill play an evil Superman clone who causes destruction and kills civilians recklessly to mock Man of Steel and the fight against Zod. these arent your usual "bring back Cavill" fans but ones that hate him too, especially when he appeared in Deadpool 3 as a cameo since that meant he "betrayed the DC fandom"
>>149327382Snyder fans arenโt the ones behind that theory
>>149325675Luthor's secondary goon behind Ultraman. Does goon things. No Authority or WS references at all. Her nanite powers were given to her by Lex and she shares his hatred of metahumans so much she was willing to become one.
not every Snyderkek likes Cavill or wants him back, a small but not unimportant number of them don't want the Snyderverse back anymore they just want divine retribution against the industry that wronged their GOAT
>>149327322Given BvS and the DCEU didnโt happen and the trilogy plan stayed intact it looks like Snyder was going to go Zod>Metallo>Brainiac. While directly butting heads in the second movie I guess the third movie would be Superman teaming up with Lex to defeat Brainiac.
>resort to using cosmic-scale JL villains rather than Superman's own rogues gallery here on Earth.Looks like Gunn is doing that. From here on out heโs moving towards the Justice League. The chances of getting another solo Superman film within the next 5 years is grim.
Jor-El explicitly telling Superman to have sex with as many women as he possibly can was really weird lol
>>149326221That suit is so good. I love when the logo is huge
The movie is literally about Superman saving Not!Palestine from Not!Israel, which is based
>>149325982Feels like Ultraman has taken Bizarro's thunder so no him either.
Would love to see a Mxy film but difficult to write - we know Gunn is fond of Bat-Mite so who knows?
Besides them that's sort of it for major villains. I imagine they'll want to save Darkseid for the future. Probably no Mongul as a result as visually a little too similar. I'm partial to Terra-Man but I'm retarded.
>>149327344It also makes Superman look bad, just a massive amount of deception and mind games for zero reason.

>>149327708Is the glowing jellyfish orb form from the comics?
>>149326200I don't like that very much, but it is not a new thing for Supergirl's character, her return to comics in 2003 had DC go exactly for that kind of angle for Kara, she wasn't the nice and pure cousin, but the brash and rebellious cousin.
The New 52 did away with that, making Supergirl be the stranger in a strange planet kind of character, and Rebirth tried to make her the nice girl cousin again.
It just so happens Gunn's Supergirl is dressed like the current comics Supergirl, but she being a drunk blonde is tracing back to the 2003 Supergirl who wants to party hard.
>>149327723It resembles the conquering star or whathisname from All Star Superman

>>149327725 anyway
>>149327743Unlikely, I noticed the black woman who knocks Amanda Waller out with a golf club and got arrested in TSS appears in Superman as the Secretary of Defense.
>>149327762Oh I caught imp, didn't realize it was specifically fifth dimensional. Really cool
>>149327781that was a funny scene, Waller getting knocked out
>>149327781But Waller is still in the doghouse due to her minions rising up and exposing her shady business...Gunn probably just likes the actress and decided to cast her again, like he does with all his friends.
>>149327781>>149327836from what I heard, Peacemaker is firmly set within the new DCU but the 2021 Suicide Squad film is "loose canon" meaning the events happened but the exact details are different. which is fine because Bloodsport shooting a Kryptonite bullet at Superman makes more sense if it's the new guy rather than Henry Cavill, but it also makes Aquaman's appearance in Peacemaker S1 weird.
>>149323086 (OP)My favorite thing about this movie is that it sets a tone of "anything goes" for the DCU
I am now genuinely hopeful of seeing stuff like Plastic man, Bizarro, Etrigan and Metal Men.
I want to see Ted Kord and Booster Gold in this world and goofy Flash shit.
>>149323154I'm pretty sure it's a mistranslation. The first part had a different word choice from what the super robots translated, and the part lex gave out seemed off in comparison.
Doesn't matter too much, because I enjoyed the payoff of the parent footage at the very end
>>149327892As I recall, Gunn said that pretty much everything in Peacemaker is canon except the Justice League cameo at the end. People also wonder if they'll retcon some of the stuff by having Peacemaker take the place of the alt-universe Peacemaker they show in the season 2 trailer, and the new universe is this one with the new Supes.
>>149327892Going by the teaser and interviews, it seems more like the OG Peacemaker cast from the DCEU travel to the DCU using the pocket universe portals from Superman and end up usurping their DCU counterparts.
The movie establishes a very specific tone (campy but sincere and comic booky, ala the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies) for the setting that it might feel weird when Lanterns drops next year, considering the whole premise of that series is a grounded and gritty GL drama which the leaks say will involve Hal and Jon cucking a white supremacist leader by fucking his wife and daughter respectively.
>>149327998>grounded and gritty GL dramaWhat lmao
>>149328122Grounded as in realistic characters
>>149327998James Gunn has specifically critiqued the MCU movies for all having the same tone and said they're specifically avoiding that. Clayface is a body horror movie and they're doing it early just to establish that anything goes

>>149328904Felt more like Sam Raimi but Superman
>>149328919That's the exact vibe I got, like if Spider-Man 2 was a Superman movie
Sigh, they went with the dumb goof version of Superman. I still like that version of him but it's weird that Gunn said All Star was a huge inspiration for him when that's the exact opposite of his character in All Star where his brain matches if not exceeds his brawn
Good movie though
>>149329005That sounds fucking great
>>149328134god I hate that Snyderkeks are primarily associated with my country now
>>149329356Yeah man I loved it. Cannot wait to see it again.
There's one exchange I loved at the end, it's hardly a spoiler but don't click if you don't want to see anything: Superman and Mr Terrific are looking at their cleanup job after one of the big fights and one of the buildings they repaired is a little uneven, Superman makes a comment about it and Mr Teriffic gets annoyed and walks off. Superman shouts "It looks good! I shouldn't have brought it up!" then mutters "Gosh I can be such a jerk sometimes."
This is an after credits scene and I hope it implies the future of after credits scenes for this series, I don't like when after credits stuff is just setting up for sequels that may or may not happen or plans that probably won't come true
>>149329338Corenswets' Superman reminded me of a younger version of DCAU Superman who is genuinely well-meaning but terrible at making arguments regarding the implications around metahumans and politics, because their only points are their repeated insistence that they would never turn evil.
>>149329359Sorry. Itโs just a meme that got out of hand because of how hateful the fandom split is. In actuality, Iโve seen a lot of the Snyderfags that are either chuds obsessed with wokeness, and from places like Khazakstan or whatever the fuck
>>149329424For me I think it's specifically For All Seasons Superman but Gunn did cite DCAU as a huge inspiration

>>149323411>/col/That's not a thing.
>>149323086 (OP)Honestly, probably the best cinematic Lex we could have asked for. He comes in third only after DCAU and Smallville Lex, which is fine since those other two had multiple seasons of development.
>>149329688I think he's too young but he still did great
I'm so happy that they kicked the infallible larger than life divine prophet shit the curb and gave us a man who laughs and gets angry and scared and tries to do his best even when he doesn't know what to do
This is SUCH a good take on the character, my fucking God. About time
>>149328904One more time, but without tears in your eyes.
>>149329688People keep forgetting about YJ Luthor who is arguably better than both
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUFqyyhMQH8
Too bad YJ Superman blows
>>149329835Fallibility wasn't the problem with Snyder's Superman, it was lack of personality. Every time Cavill gets a chance in Man of Steel to actually say things instead of being a mute punching machine he kills it
>>149329897You're right, I did forget about him.
Season 1&2 Young Justice probably had the best 'baseline' Luthor but I still think DCAU Lex is the greatest rendition of the character with how much stuff he gets to do in that universe.
>>149329977It also helps that Clancy Brown could read a dictionary on screen and Iโd listen to it.
But yeah DCAU Lex runs through nearly all of Lexโs various roles over the years, itโs a hard interpretation to top.
>>149329688Iโm worried he might lack some of that subtlety that the DCAU did so well. One reviewer compared him to High Evolutionary levels of spaztic. Every Superman project always comes out with their own flavor of Luthor tho, so Iโll be going in with an open mind
>>149329688I really got into his portrayal when it was revealed that
he literally runs a troll factory of monkeys who are the main source of hate and smear campaigns against Superman on the internet and imprisons his ex-girlfriends alongside political prisoners and metahumans in his pocket dimension.
Then of course his rant near the end where he feels offended that people keep comparing him to genuises pike Einstein, Newton, and Galileo because he's far superior to all of them and the reveal that he kickstarted a geopolitical war simply to provide a reasonable excuse for him to kill Superman
>>149330252Yeah Gunn was definitely in love with Morrisson's Lex and just wanted to do that
>>149330252The film emphasizes his pettiness and jealousy of Superman compared to how restrained and sly he is in most of his other depictions, although I think that's what makes him very entertaining. He's a silver age villain in a modern comic book movie.
>>149323236No birthing matrix, no man of murder
The key Byrne contributions lie in the wastebin of history
>Jim Kim called, he wants to see this movie and also wants a new Batman movie too,
>He canโt watch it because heโs stuck in detention with 6 friends, some insanely annoying girl scout and a crazed evil teacher
So glad to hear you all enjoyed MCU slop but with DC characters this time.
>>149330619Thanks man, glad to hear you're seething
Has WB said the budget for Supergirl anywhere yet? I feel like it can't possibly turn a profit
>>149323581>>149323551The time to do Superman vs The Elite was this movie, the first new Superman movie in well over 12 years in this media climate. Gunn played it safe and just went with Lex Luthor but baited people with including the Engineer. Manchester Black can work as a villain but you'd have to majorly elongate the story into a 2 hour feature and plus normies would complain if Superman could end the conflict from the start but just wanted to prove a point. Sadly, it might just work better as a comic/cartoon than a movie where the stakes are ideological instead of punchy punchy.

>>149330735Beat character the film imo but distinct from DCAU Lex, who was colder and more calculating while DCU Lex is defined by his sheer dedication to hating on and killing Superman.
It's insane how much of a difference the director setting a tone makes. I'm not seeing anyone claim that Superman killing Bizarro is as serious as him killing Zod.

Snyderโs and Gunnโs Superman were both bloated, ugly messes, emotionally immature messes, just in different ways
>>149329897I genuinely believe Cavill could've been a top 3 superhero casting (along the lieks of RDJ and Hugh) if he was actually paired with a competent writer who understood the character and the world around him well. instead we got a hack Elseworlds comic turned into multimillion failures and some genuinely great casting choices wasted with it. DCEU Superman was always portrayed as a caricature he is not, and Clark never gets a proper chance to actually humanize himself as someone other than said caricature
>>149331642Cavill is one of those characters that can perfectly embody his character with his real life personality, but gets neutered by a regarded director.

Even with those guys (i.e., Martian Manhunter, The Flash) it depends on who's writing the story.

Really if Gunn wanted some humor, Bizarro would have been a decent choice for a villain, being a defective clone who isn't even entirely evil and all.

So did James Gunn understand Superman or it's just another good comic book movie?
>>149336331I imagine that being quite a bit better now that word of mouth has generally been pretty positive
>>149336546Sort of both. In literally every single comic Gunn said he referenced, Superman is portrayed as smart and wise, but in the movie itself Corenswet's Superman is goofy as hell.
Superman isn't a genius all the time but it's just weird that Gunn made such a point of talking about All Star and What's so Funny but ended up making his Superman's personality nothing like those iterations.
>>149336546>So did James Gunn understand SupermanI think so, he did a good job straddling the line between earnestness and slightly goofy charm and overall kept him a very human character instead of the Supergod bullshit. As other people have said he's basically a synthesis of Byrne and Morrison's runs so if you like them any you might like this one.

>>149323086 (OP)I finished watching it this evening and I think it genuinely gave me new optimism for life as a whole.
The dialogue was truth be told a bit corny at times, but that's par for the course (and I'd rather have that desu). One thing I really liked was the pacing. It legit felt like a comic book, cutting from one location to another in the blink of an eye. Might just be me though.
The fights were absolutely incredible btw, and watching it in IMAX felt like I was physically in the fray being tossed around.. I could write a lot more but I don't wanna turn this into a novel, and there's plenty of other anons who share my sentiments.

Is anyone a young zoomer or alpha here? Did you watch the movie? Did you like it? Apparently the movie is tracking well with millennials and older zoomers, but the interest rapidly decline as the audience gets younger. The earnest and positive tone is perceived as genuine by millennials and it's the highpoint of the movie for them, but younger people see it performative and somewhat cringe. I found that interesting. Historically younger generations consume the media made by the previous generation, and while that is still mostly the case, there's a split between younger zoomers and millennials that hadn't really been seen before, and the reaction to this iteration of Superman may be particularly representative of that.
Why is Luthor so pathetic in this movie? Absolute humiliation of the character.
>>149337438I'm not saying he can't do a good job.
But him being cast in The Boys was very clearly a marketing stunt by Amazon meant to invoke "hey guys, here's the guy you like from the thing you watched", made even more evident by them bringing the other Supernatural actors for the final season, or Aaron Paul to voice Powerplex in Invincible.
>>149323086 (OP)I smiled so much throughout this movie, we actually might be back this time.
>>149336607That's the current projection ceiling with the good word of mouth. Previously it was at around 115. Shawn is an outlier predicting like 135 millions, but most have it at around 110-120. Looks like it will definitely go past 100 though, which was a genuine fear a few days ago.

Lex only caring about the Arbiter was cute, but I donโt know what he was thinking dating that blonde cunt instead of her badass metal chick when her constant selfies and idiotic behaviour make her a menace to his plans. I know he has an ego and believes heโs too good to be foiled like that, but heโs also supposed to be smart. And a liability like her is pretty weird in his grand plans.
>let me take this dumb cunt to the invasion of my greatest nemesis base. Surely nothing bad will come off this. I am the worlds smartest man.
>>149338141Perhaps it wasn't just feeling superior to her, but her loyalty. At least until Jimmy showed up. More reason to introduce Mercy later
>>149333810Lex would figure out a way to control Homelander, and if Homelander steps out of line then Luthor would find a way to kill him because he's Lex Luthor, the greatest criminal mind of all time. Better yet, Luthor could use Homelander as an example of the kind of danger Supes can become if he went rogue.
I think it's funny that Jor-El being evil or looking like from a race of invaders is becoming a recurring thing because back in the New 52 some people used to say they would never make Superman's parents "evil" like they did with Wonder Woman's Amazons.
Kind of the same with them making Thomas Wayne a questionable guy too.
>>149337592While the later of what you said is true, I honest to god did not recognize him as Soldier Boy and I watched ALL of fucking Supernatural. >>149338318>>149338506Kryptonians being assholes is older than New 52. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I assume Jor-El's message was more cold scientist saying "They're a primitive race, but you'll set them straight once you take over, don't make our mistakes" right?

>>149338894It wasn't a complex geopolitical conflict though, in the context of the film Bolivia just invaded not!Palestine and the US was letting it slide because the former was an ally, then it's revealed near the end that the whole conflict was artiifical because it was just part of Lex's larger scheme to kill Superman
>>149338964It's a retard going up against someone with normal intellect and skill, retard. Doesn't take a genius to know who'd have the upper hand.
>>149338991He still went after notIsrael, threatened notNetanyahu and then notIsrael's Iron Man came to his home city to personally beat him up and call him a faggot. He doesn't even grow out of that mentality by the end either, he knows he's a dumbass protecting people and won't do anything to change it, all he did was call his friends to protect notPalestine while he saved the world, friends that were already his friends before the movie started.
>>149339059It's just DCAU Superman all over again, specifically in the Cadmus arc. >>149338318the Waynes being questionable was always something writers were too cowardly to tackle until recently. I like to believe they were still good people and not exactly moustache-twirling evil, but you don't get to be billionaires without doing some sort of unlawful thing. I think it also helps if the Wayne family has been a cornerstone of Gotham economy for decades, since that means Bruce's parents largely inherited the wealth and didn't have a significant part in exploiting the poor, similar to how Bruce inherited it all while being oblivious
>>149339552The actors have been making up some pretty wild headcanons for their characters in the film, like Perry White's actor stated that Perry holds a grudge against Luthor because he had an affair with his wife.
None of this is indicated in the movie itself.

why didnt supergirl conquer and enslave male humans for her harem then?
>>149338410>Vaush video about Ben ShapiroMight be the shittiest post on this board.

Also it's a hologram message, Jor-El didn't know Supergirl would be there.
>>149339721>why didnt supergirl conquer and enslave male humans for her harem then? She's went to red sun planets to break her hymen, then came back to wring all of the cum out of earth's men.
>>149339721>why didnt supergirl conquer and enslave male humans for her harem then? She prefers aliens

The Engineer was cute when her hair was all spiky.
I'm glad she survived.

>>149339775in maws yes
and its such a fucking waste
>>149339776Give her a wifi extender and it's over for Superman.
>>149339721Superman breeding multiple human women is more efficient than Supergirl being bred once at a time
>>149339793but thise would be full kriptonian offspring
anywho jor el could have softened up his message a bit. it is also weird the ppl instanrltly forgave superman like that when tje message was not debunked or stated to be false
Engineer needed that helmet, silver skin, and some other details. She was a bit off-putting whenever there's a close up shot of her. Her hips were nice though.
>>149339821surprised that gunn the horny mess didnt add a scene where random women instanrly threw themselves at supes out of fear or legit thirst
>>149337693nah she was an abysmal miscast. Amy Adams is a good actress but she's nothing like Lois and even the script didn't help her, Snyder wrote her extremely weirdly and it's a joke that her and Clark are even dating by the second movie
It feels more like James Gunn only read The Boys and Invencible and used DC characters instead, the main villain is even Black Noir.
>>149339956He kinda took bizzarro and named him ultraman too
he 100% got kirkman'd with the kriptonians tho there is no mistaking that
>>149339571It was his season 1 costume
>>149340002kinda implied dceu pm killed dcu pm
>>149339956do you guys even hear yourself sometimes?
Am i the only one really surprised about the importance of mr terrific and methamorpho in the movie? Don't get me wrong, he's really cool, but I actually thought guy Gardner was gonna be the one stealing scenes
It was so cool too the silver age explanation about how superman glasses have the hypnotic ability to change his appearance when he's Clark Kent too, got me a smile on me.
>>149339956You talk like someone who knows about comics but doesn't read them
>>149340133I don't know if the hypno glasses are actually real, I thought Guy just mocks them as a theory
Superbros we are so fucking back

>>149340133>Guy GardnerWhy did you think he will be used for anything other than comic relief? He was only included that Gunn can toss some money to one of his buddies
What's Lex motivation in the movie?
