I wouldn't say "Replacement" given her different motives and purpose, but yes Punchline is a character worth keeping around. This prevents Harley from regressing, and gives us a fun henchwoman to tag along with Joker. I think the only thing really hurting her besides not yet having a cartoon appearance is the fact that she showed up right before DC started getting really weird with Joker. After the Tynion run, Joker was more or less put on backburner and everyone was trying to make sense/clean up Geoff Johns's 3 Jokers nonsense. We had some imposters, then the retcon of Joker's personality shifting being due to psychological training which was then tied to Zur En Arrh Batman. So we haven't had a "normal" Joker scheme in a while to give her the chance to do fun things. Last time I remember seeing her was the last Sirens book

I think it's better if she gets increasingly desperate, deranged, unstable and nonsensical in her strategies and mindset - have her go genuinely insane but without charisma or cunning. Then, despair. Break her down a little more, make her recover less stable, more desperate every time. Well that's how The Question started: a relatively nobody vigilante that beat up bums that amounted to a struggle. I think their dynamic works because, of the material we have of Punchline it is very obvious that she's using this villain shit as a front to hide some insane insecurities about herself / has a really bad case of Imposter syndrome. The narrative of living your true self, Cass subverting the idea of masks hiding true selves because the mask of Batgirl *is * her would work brilliantly. She's a good replacement for Harley but I think her design and overall presentation needs some work. I think part of the problem is that Joker's current personality is whatever the author wants it to be, so it makes having Punchline's character around difficult for the long-term.

So a big fear of mine is giving to much explaination to a female villian as it leads to them becoming the le victim and being redeemed into a hero/anti hero. But other wise fun idea and very much would feel like a good way to try and be "modern" without being overly forced by making characters ooc. As both kind of fit social media and identity/parasocial concepts well. I can see both exploring different aspects of one another in a fun warped way. If it was just cass punchline's teeth would just be on the floor in 5 secs flat, and babs would psycho analyize her in the same ammount of time then in the next 5 secs have Punchline's teeth on the floor. But Steph fits more as she's a bit more inquisitive and investigation-oriented, like tim drake was for a long while.
