it's always the same answer: adaptations, more of them and good ones too. Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, all of them got super popular because of adaptations outside of comics. Wonder Woman hasn't had a good solo adaptation since the Lynda Carter show but that one's so popular she still continues to be THE face for superheroines. Comics alone won't do it.
