>Years from now wherever we'll be. Hold on to our dreams, for you and for me. Whether we are near or apart. I'll always remember you'll be in my heart.

So this was the pilot for all grown up but did they imagine their future with accuracy or was the show all in their imagination?

One of the exec at Klasky Csupo hated Angelica and often pushed the writers to handle her character differently as well as other changes she wanted to see but the writing team largely resisted her input.
The original AGU episode written for the Rugrats show as a special was the stealth pilot for the proper show and was written by the original writing team. But when the AGU production was getting underway the rift between the Klasky Csupo exec got to be too much the lead writer and the rest of the team got fed up enough to quit and go elsewhere. This means the exec took over leadership of the show's writing as she hired new writers to do the actual episode scripts.

AGU was never the same characters as viewed through their life experiences and puberty, it was imitations of the characters created by new writers and the exec's own opinions on what they should be.

I was obsessed with it for like a month as a kid but I think it was just because it was the first "high school shenanigans' type show i had ever seen. And yes I know theyre in middle school but they acted like high schoolers.

When I was a kid I remember seeing a comic where everyone went to a ranch or something and then the boys started tying up the girls and raping them. It was on-model too which you think would be a detriment in this case but no, the Klasky Csupo actually works really well with S&M degeneracy, adds to the humiliation aspect of it yโ€™know? I also printed it out at school, snuck it in my bullyโ€™s locker since he never bothered the properly close it, and accidentally DESTROYED his reputation by framing him for using all the colored ink in the library printer. See I was hoping that the degeneracy of the comic would distract the other kids from the fact that I "snitched" on him but it worked too well, like he was never that popular but afterwards NONE of the other kids wanted to do anything with him anymore, especially the girls. He was an absolute pariah and even better, anytime you went to the teachers when he started doing something shitty they would instantly believe you 100% and none of the other kids cared if you stitched on him because he was obviously an absolute creep. No one ever suspected my role in this because I was a sped kid (Aspergerโ€™s, so just socially retarded instead of mentally) and the librarians all like me and would never guess Iโ€™d be ballsy enough to print off cartoon porn at the school library. I felt little bad for a while, like I just want him suspended for school for a week or so, not to be to be unpersoned but then I remember the time he stole that piece of petrified wood so fuck him. I think his family wound up moving for his dadโ€™s job or something.

I didn't hate it but I wasn't attached to it either. In fact, looking back it only made grown up life look boring.

I wanted to watch kids still do kids stuff so pic related was more interesting to me. Even if they're not literal babies anymore.

Kinda interesting since the audience that grew up on Rugrats were that age too then, and considering they kinda seemed to be out of good ideas for regular Rugrats early All Grown Up wasn't bad.
But I didn't like drama cartoons as much so I ended up dropping it pretty fast too

I remember liking Angelica more in AGU compared to Rugrats. Maybe it was just because as a teen, she wouldn't have been able to get away with the type of brattiness she had as a toddler so she was more subdued. And possibly because I've seen worse mean girl teens in comparison in other cartoons, like Miranda from As Told by Ginger.

NTA, but it's more that Klasky hated Angelica in specific for being a stain on her original vision for Rugrats as an actual preschooler show where no real conflict happens.

Angelica had some pretty legitimate episodes and development in AGU. She was probably the best part of it.
There's an episode where she's really excited about her birthday party and is inviting people at school. The popular bitch of the school overhears and sees how excited she is and decides to throw her own party on the same day even though it's not even her birthday simply because she feels that Angelica needs to be knocked down a few pegs even though Angelica didn't antagonize her in anyway. Angelica genuinely doesn't know what she did "wrong" and can't understand why someone would be that fucking petty for absolutely no reason. The others feel a little bad for her but also think she kind of deserves it after all the shit she's given them through the years, so they're reluctant to help her without Tommy's persuasion. It's a scenario that does feel pretty grounded without needing to be overexaggerated just because it's a cartoon.
