There is a resistance that is caused between him and others bickering that would stall the plot, and it would sometimes create more problems he would have to fix. Typically he would end up having to lead the tango of ending the conflict because the other person is just a slightly different flavor of crazy and unhinged that it puts his actions into a morally gray zone. Yes, this is his fault, but the others are not helping and trying to deal with their persistent bullshit makes it understandable that he would make bad mistakes.
And I feel that a lot of this is immediately missing in season 3 but the whole season is just weird to me that right now it's hard to get an idea of what I just watched. Not sure how season 4 is going to pan out on this either but as of right I'm not hopeful.
