Why are there so few good non-comedy adult sci-fi cartoons compared to anime? Futurama was pretty popular at some point so I'd imagine that there is an audience for that among adult cartoon fans.

They are both really good. I think I enjoyed the anime a little more but it's your choice really. The first 2 episodes of the anime are condensed in a movie and you can watch and continue from there.
