I had trouble with the first issue, but once I read it I was hooked. The Brainiac in this one is actually evil for a change.

Thanks for the reminder. Looks like the storytime >>149326623 got pushed off before I saw it. Not bad with the more overt foreshadowing of Apokolips. Makes the Omega Men with their boom tubes and motherboxes (or fatherbox in this issue) more suspect. And of course the conflict Clark feels in the slippery slope into violence brings echoes of evil Superman storylines. I'm also wondering if this is the first time the other Absolute stories have been mentioned in universe. Everyone's off doing their own thing but I assume there will be a big crossover down the line.

It's the weakest Absolute title IMO. It's not awful, it's got some good moments here and there, but overall it just feels like it's trying too hard to be cool and not doing enough to develop its characters. The story is tries to tell is a classic (evil corporations are stealing your freedoms and killing the planet) but it's told with zero flair or imagination, literally just psychotic villains behind everything that happens.

It also makes the same mistake as Absolute Batman: Wanting to create a version of the character that has a more humble lineage, while at the same time not making any effort to make that mean anything. Bruce Wayne is the son of a teacher instead of an industrial millionaire, but he somehow still has unlimited funds to build multiple Batmobiles and have dozens, even implied to be hundreds, of secret bases all over Gotham. Kal-El is the son of outcast farmers instead of wealthy scientists, but they were still super-geniuses who built a one of a kind spaceship and in terms of technology even gave him MORE than in the original version (his sapient nano-supersuit).

The art, yeah I can actually agree with that. Abin Sur and some of the more fantastic stuff looks good, but the characters and backgrounds are meh. Can't agree on the plot though. The only real issue is that it's really slow, but aside from that it's better at establishing characters and story than Superman and Flash are.

I'd put Superman and Green Lantern both in regular

Superman was only tolerable for the 6 issues I read it because of the art because the rest came off like a lost Image book from 1994

Green Lantern could have potential if the art wasn't webcomic tier garbage, probably from Ewing throwing a bone to one of his tumblr friends

It's an example of Chesterton's Fence in action. You don't remove things if you don't know why they're there in the first place. The Kents are why Superman is Superman. Both of Bruce's parents dying are why he's Batman. Remove those things from the story without meaningfully replacing them just gives you a weirder, more boring, flatter character.

Man, I hate to say this, but don't fucking insult Baki like that. Bane is a retard's idea of what a master martial artist looks like
>hrm I shall call out the names of fighting styles while effortlessly breaking your limbs by tapping you, because I am the greatest warrior ever
>you are a very good warrior. I can say this because I know all about fighting, which is how I beat you
Baki's "strongest" character raped a guy to prove he was more masculine and that is less retarded than Absolute Bane beating Batman by snapping all of Batman's limbs with subtle kungfu master taps.
