I don't read Superman comics, so is the fact that this Lesla character was able to leave Kandor supposed to be significant? I thought the whole thing is that everyone inside Kandor was stuck small, but she leaves and even gets that badonkadonk for free. I went to see the new Superman film this evening. She has about a minute of screentime near the end. Clark is getting a medical checkup from his Fortress of Solitude bots at the end and Kara flies in, crash-lands, clearly drunk. the thing is Supergirl's continuity, personality, and relationships have always been messy with multiple explanations/variations across the character's history, so there's no definitive "Supergirl" book. In that regard, WOT isn't exactly out of character any more than other versions, but it's still a good book, so it makes sense that Gunn is basing off her DCU appearance on a modern-day well-regarded comic, which new readers have more chances of picking up than a storyline from the 80s (unless it's one that's extremely popular and well-regarded, which Supergirl lacks)

What I find bizarre about Ariella Kent, is that she was originally portrayed as either blonde or light brown-haired, with blue eyes and white skin, as you would expect the daughter of a white, blue-eyed, blond woman, and a white man with blue-eyes and black hair.

Then, in Supergirl 1,000,000, she's suddenly ambiguously brown-skinned, with black eyes, a wide mouth, and a brown Afro. In SOME panels, she was given vaguely blue eyes but, even then, still retains the altered facial features and giant puffball Afro.

Like, there's no mistaking it: It doesn't look like wavy hair, it doesn't look like a lazy representation of curly hair, it is a full on 'fro.

So, while appearing in a number of comics I can count without taking off my socks, she goes from a straight-haired, blond, blue-eyed, white girl, to ambiguously tan,often dark-eyed, with different facial features, and a 'fro. No attempt at continuity at all, just something that comes off as a bizarre race swap.

I get tired of the constant "What did X mean by this?" on this board, but... Was it just a shitty artist? An actual race swap? What the heck did they mean by this?

There wasn't so much a point as there was a goal, and that was to integrate Power Girl into the Superfamily-unfortunately, it was went about it in the dumbest and worst way possible. Angsting over not feeling like a part of the Superfamily, feeling insecure about Supergirl (and just feeling insecure in general), and having her previous identity, character and history treated and tossed aside like nothing because Leah couldn't be bothered to properly research the character she was hired to write and decided to just get rid of the "baggage" and start anew. For me I think Supergirl/ Kara is actually more of an new immigrant representative than Clark/ Superman.
Since she's already a teenager when she settles in her new home (earth/USA) compare to Clark who was basically almost born and raised here.
