It's only recently I realized how shallow of an impact this show left behind, there's no real active cult following like other cancelled adult animated series The Boondocks or even something like F is for Family. You don't really see people nostalgically reminiscence for it at all. Zoomers don't give a single shit about despite loving anything faux 2000's era like Clone High. I know it wasn't the most popular show even when it aired, competition from South Park who were in their golden age of quality and controversy at the time and also the Chappelle Show on the same network probably hurt it. Family Guy was also revived at the same time it started airing and probably took attention away from it. I never see people quote it or make memes for it anywhere, I never see YouTube videos covering it like with other series or clips at all.

Drawn Together was a direct influence in the creation of Panty and Stocking, it was pretty ahead of its time in terms of parody works.

Guess you’ve never been to Latin America, the show has a huge following there due to its amazing Spanish dub.

Was Drawn Together ever operating under the pretense that it would outlast or have more impact that the cartoons it was mocking? Because I don't think that was ever the point. Not to mention that at least a few of the things they were making jokes about, like crass flash cartoons, Hanna-Barbera mystery solving teens, and Betty Boop are all old, outdated, and nonexistent these days.

You have been claiming this shit for over a decade and the only proof has been a tiny newspaper extract. Panty & Stocking was clearly influenced by styles like UPA, not this art style mish-mash that you simply don't see in P&S.

Total Drama too by creator admission.
Drawn Together's real impact was proving that sometimes, people enjoy a shitpost and there's not much wrong with being one.
Plus Drawn Together wasn't cancelled for poor ratings nor was it the South Park crew. It's pretty much confirmed the creators got big egos and turned into insufferable twats who sat around playing xbox during work hours and basically burned network money during season 3

I only said because I thought it was ironic, how ever even shows that contemporary they poked fun at like South Park have outlived them

The rumour that the South Park crew got it canned and not the creators being lazy slobs who played Halo 24/7 is really funny.

What I'm getting at is that poking fun at, mocking, parodying, etc is NOT explicitly done with the intention that the mockery will outlive the target. That's very much not a thing that should be anywhere on your mind when thinking about a parody show. The parody doesn't have to be massively successful to be funny on its own or to have effectively skewered some popular, successful thing.

On the South Park Rumours
>Matt Silverstein actually believes Trey Parker had a hand making sure Drawn Together died. There were rumors that he didn't like it piggybacking off of his success with South Park, the fact that it was Comedy Central's number 2 show at the time, and because near the end of Drawn Together's 3rd season, there was an investigation going on at Comedy Central from Viacom censors due to a controversy with a South Park episode. The censors basically were like "Well, we gotta see what the Hell you guys are letting through" and the head of CC at the time, Doug Herzog, said to give them a reel of the most outrageous moments of any shows they had aside from South Park, and the whole reel was nothing but Drawn Together. Apparently the person who told them about this was like "You don't mention my name, but I went to this thing and I could get in a lot of trouble for this" and in addition some alleged ex-girlfriend of Trey's who I guess they were friendly with was like "Yeah, Trey had a big fucking hand in ending Drawn Together" Matt Sliverman also treated that he would ''stab'' Trey if they ever met
Sliverman just seems like a loser all together, he doesn't believe them playing XBOX and their shows declining quality killed it and not some shit he made up.

I'll always respect Drawn Together for shitting on South Park. Also something doesn't have to be popular and remain so for it to be good

It's to some degree ironic that everything they made fun of, has outlived them. It doesn't have to be the point for it be ironic. How hard is this to get?
Anonymous No.149372838
>>149372801
Because that's not how irony works. It would be ironic if they made the show believing that everything else would be cancelled or dead before their show was done, or that they'd be bigger and more popular than all of them combined, but that was literally never the point. Why is that hard to understand?

The Man Show too. It's like Jimmy Kimmel is still famous despite the Man Show when it was a big hit. It's like a lot of trash TV has been memoryholed.

I'm not about to defend this show or anything but you have to realize that sometimes things aren't trying to be timeless. The whole show was very clearly shouldn't for immediate reactions.

Thank you for the laugh OP; seeing you mad about a show that, by self admission, was all about irreverent and gross out humour, several years after they were canceled, makes me thing they did succeed on fucking with people at least.
