The only thing they needed to do was getting rid of Snyder...they had him destroying the DCU for a decade.
What the fuck happened from 2013 to now?!

WB coping, them also rushing to course correct over and over again without really thinking things through, and a fuckton of company politics.

If nothing else, the book that'll get published about it like 20 years from now will be very interesting.

I don't think they'll do Shazam again. Sequel bombed, Dwayne Johnson poisoned the well, and frankly Billy's mortal younger self is an ongoing filming complication that they might as well just leave be. Only way Shazam will be in the DCU is if we never see his kid form, and regulated to side character. Aquaman is probably fine, but I don't know if he'll ever get another solo film.

Idk, the first movie did $1B at the BO. The sequel had a hard drop but you can attribute that to people knowing that the DCEU was dead by that time. There's certainly an audience there for him.

Not just that but the Aquaman sequel did better than the other films that were released after Gunn announced the DC reboot.

The Flash:
Budget $200–220 million
Box office $271.4 million

Shazam 2:
Budget: $110–125 million
Box office: $134.1 million

Blue Beetle:
Budget $104–125 million
Box office $131 million

Aquaman 2:
Budget: $205–215 million
Box office: $439.4 million

Aquaman (and Wonder Woman) are Marvel-type films full of quips and humor and in Wonder Woman's case wacky side-characters (the not-Howling Commandoes).

It was the Snydertone that killed the whole endeavor and kept it from reaching the heights of the MCU. Never did a DCEU film manage to be the top grossing cape movie, even when they threw whole teams of them.

I mean, yeah. This is pretty obvious.

It's also weird how Snyder tried to bring these characters together that had weird, different takes but the audience wasn't really familiar with them. What's even the point of bringing these iconic characters for the first time if you're just going to change them so they're barely recognizable anyway?

They hyped Man of Steel for an entire year, pre-sold tickets almost a full year out, which they have never repeated, and then blacked out reviews til it was in theaters (which gave it a good opening but it fell off afterward).
It SHOULD have been a dead end like Superman Returns, but the MCU-too was too enticing.a

My point is, Snyder isn't a genius. He and Goyer just ripped that dialogue from the comic to make it seem like they were faithfully adapting the character. Because Kal in the movie hadn't even accomplished shit by that point and even when he had, it was with a shit ton of destruction and lives lost.

Throwing out a quote from a comic, or aping a panel from a comic, means nothing if you just otherwise ignore the tone, themes and hopefulness of said comic.
It means the writer read the comic once, the Director ain't reading shit.

If we can’t have both parents being supportive it’s WAY more important that Pa Kent is. If Jor El tells him to be a conqueror but his adoptive dad says follow your heart, his choice to be good is human actualization. If his earth parents say hide from the world but Joe El says lead them with your super powers and he does, he’s answering a divine calling. It’s literally an anti-Superman spin on the content.

It's making less than MoS did 10 years ago.
The shillreviews don't seem to be swaying the general public.

I really don't like either of them. Snyder Jor-El has no reason to believe his son will be a moral bulwark. It's putting the cart before the horse. He didn't send his son to earth to lead humanity like God did with Jesus. Jor-El just wanted his son to live a full life. I don't like Gunn's Jor-El either. He sounds like a dumb psychopath. If Superman lorded over earth, he would have been killed by a dozen different humans. Would have put him on Batman's shit list.

So, just like at the current era. Some things never change.

Wonder Woman never had a good story, her comics are shit, her movies are shit, her show is overrated and also extremely shit, she's one of the worst characters in DCAU.
She's just a bad character all-around.

We're not out of the clear yet. James Gunn is a good director of capeshit and has directed all four canon installments of the universe so far.
Batman: Brave and the Bold is still held hostage by the Flash director, which has me worried. More broadly, we need to see a good movie or show without Gunn directing/writing to know whether the universe has legs.

>People were going to DIE!

He nailed the performance on exactly why Jesus has every reason to be disappointed with us in a similar fashion. Superman literally drops out of the sky and threatens hard disciplinary action because he has the ability to impose good and thank GOD he does because you really shouldn't be motivating the guy who has the ability to act to do absolutely nothing while lives could be lost in the process. Superman is a metahuman. He is an alien. It is quiet literally a miracle that he followed good traditional christian upbringing to fall in love with humanity and identity with us to the degree that he loves us enough to continually sacrifice his own happiness to stand at it's guardian against all threats.

I know it isn't Lois per se but more her taking on the stance of devil's advocate which is why I appreciate her stopping her line of questioning when she saw that it was causing Clark to do nothing but retreat into himself which is the absolute last thing you want the strongest person operating on the side of good to do. Clark isn't supposed to withdraw.

Superman is supposed to be the fictional hero that everyone and their mother can use to make the closest jump to Jesus as possible. The theme of doing the Will of the Father is still present. Corrupting that for a change in tone isn't necessarily bad and has been done before but in this present age it feels more of a middle finger to the face than good natured rib. Something that one of the icons of masculinity certainly didn't need. Same with Man being unable to tame Man's Best Friend. That sets a terrible mental precedent that, if anything, sends the message that dogs suck and that Clark can't get the respect of a Super Mutt to do it's job. Kara being a terrible pet owner doesn't send a positive message. Krypto not being his canon breed sitinks. Gunn not having respect or a knowledge of Christ means he was always going to fail to write a loving homage to the fictional symbol of Jesus..
