Ugliest art style imaginable, and still I think she's hot. Not much hotter than a bratty Stacy archetype who dresses "alt"

Biskit Twins also come to mind

She feels like she would genuinely appreciate being shown a shitty dive or a bad band just because it's not the wilderness.

Wasn't grunge a little out of date when this was made? Was the joke that she was unable to keep up with the new trends because of her family's weird lifestyle?

It was just made by out of touch middle aged adults that really had no idea what was popular among teens. you could not describe to them the differences in what a teen in 1994 looked like vs a teen in 2001.

The entire point of cartooning is to communicate the idea of an image, not the image itself. You find her hot because they were able to put the idea of a flawed but desirable young woman in your mind with a few lines instead of taking a photograph of a real one. Because they rely on your imagination to fill in the gaps in their work, their image is more evocative to you because you already have an opinion of her and so your mind replaces any details they failed to express with ones that affirm your opinion of her.

She is? I thought she was 17 at most.

Also, how realistic is it for Eliza and Debbie to have standard American accents when they travel all over the world and have a British father?
Anonymous No.149380013 [Report]

Maybe "standard" was the wrong word. "Common" might've fit better.
Anonymous No.149380063 [Report] >>149380428
>>149379962
Actually pretty realistic, even some Britons have shifted closer to American pronunciations due to media influence. I think the streamer Limealicious is one of the more famous examples of that, born and raised in the UK but sounds like she's from America barring only select words like grass.

I think it makes a lot of sense. They travel all over the world so don't have a single place to take local reference from, their mom has an American accent, and the 80s to 90s were probably the zenith of American media dominance so that's what they would have mostly grown up with.

Bullshit. Anyone who does that is putting it on. We hear US accents all the time in media, but that's been true for decades. Your accent develops from the people you communicate with day-to-day (which is why it often changes if you move regions to mimic the local one) and I have never in my life met a single fellow bong of any age who spoke with anything approaching an American accent.

Anon, I'm English. It's a genuine thing around London. Believe me, I'm not exactly thrilled that it's a development, but I've absolutely seen it.

No it's a thing with younger people and he even cited an example. Not crazy common and in my experience mostly a "children of immigrants" phenomenon though.

>London
Well there's your problem, I can't say I've ever heard anything like that between Leeds and the Scottish border where I'm familiar with and travel around quite a bit. All the kids' accents are still thick as owt up 'ere. But if it is true, how the fuck does it happen? Accents are about who you communicate WITH, subconsciously mimicking the people around you so you fit in with and are understood by them. That's why they're regional. It's not about who you listen to on TV or YouTube or whatever, because you're not talking back to those people.

Yeah I'm from Bristol and it's a lot more notable down here. I think it's a mix of RP flattening out the accents around here more (although we're a bit of a holdout) and the fact that London has so many different peoples now it's almost become like a compromise accent. I think some of it is social isolation too, my example basically grew up as an isolated nerd and mostly spent her time with American movies and games/game translations.
