Apperantly Elio was originally going to be "queer coded".

How do you think this would have gone? Giving him an alien boyfriend? Or just subtext?

an insider talked about it. he was supposed to openly have a male crush and there were scenes where he'd make a fashion show out of clothes found on the beach including a pink tank top showing the belly, for example.

they didnt like it, apparently the audience on the test screening gave the guy responsible for this shit the death glare.

They already talked about it. It was just going to be "minor" stuff like him having a picture of his male crush in his room and at one point there was going to be a fashion show scene.
>>149377401
The test screening didn't have the gay shit in it but the audience still hated it anyway.

Why does every kid-main-charactered movie need a relationship plot now? Isn't he like autistic anyways? Most of those people are too busy with hyperfixations to care about a guy or a girl.

Turning Red had the kid with a crush, so did Luca, I don't remember Pixar movies caring THIS much about love before. It had emotional relationships but not "crushes" or "love."

I bet that beaver movie that's coming out has the kid with a crush on some hot guy in her school.

There was no relationship plot in Elio though, just "queer coding" since it draws autobiographical aspects from Molinas life like their past few movies have with their directors.
>Luca
Had no romantic subplot, when it did it was still early in production and it was between Luca and the human girl. Luca having a crush on her despite her wanting to hunt seamonsters for money.

He didn't say pixar movie you retard, he said kid-main-character movie. Sure do love kid main characters like Buzz, Woody, Mike, Sully, Flick oh wait none of the characters you listed are kids or even supposed to resemble actual kids except Violet and her crush was not a plot line, it was a story device just used to show her character growth by the end of the film. Fucking idiot. It's real easy to argue with people when you just make up what they said.

Nta but what movies with kid main characters have had romance? I think very few kid's movies have kids as protagonists anyway and only romance ones were the older disney ones.

This film would've failed regardless, if they kept all that in there would be 100s of grifting channels telling people to not see it and it would've failed harder.
That's what happens when you anger both sides and become neutral because one side doesn't trust you and the other side has a literal meltdown because a scene was cut and will rile themselves up.
We're in a weird cultural transition, people are more offensive and racist and avoid stuff like this because they see it and go "looks too progressive I'll avoid it"

I don't know and I don't care. I wasn't defending the other person's point. I am just so sick and tired of retards arguing like this. Putting words in people's mouth because if you make up a fake version of someone that said something stupid they are easier to argue with. It's becoming impossible to have discussions with human beings online and, increasingly the real world, because people are becoming so fucking illiterate and incoherent.

What are you talking about. If anything people have been complaining about the lack of MC romances, even for kids.
Luca didn't have a romance. They didn't give one for Mei.

If I remember correctly the movie was going to have him have a male crush.
Pixar made a good move on this cuz they trying to reach wide net across the world other than america, if they made him out gay this movie would be a blunder.

The article with the pixar employee explained it as Elio having a picture of his crush on his wall somewhere in his room.
>a blunder
Implying it isn't already despite the delays and rewrites(definitely inflated the budget). It seemed like something that could be edited out or cut out entirely fairly easy as it wasn't a major or integral part of the movie. The movie definitely failed for other reasons, it's genuinely interesting.

The fuck do you mean, "how would it have gone?" Literally the entire reason they did the rewrite is because the test screenings of the queer-coded version were so bad that not a single person told the producers they'd pay to see the film in theaters.

Not even then. A massive component is enviromental exposure so ideally it should be case by case when it is clear that a teenager has those impulses. If you don't you may end up leading adolscents developing to be homosexual when they otherwise wouldn't be without exposure. Not even being chuddy or controversial here it's a matter of fact.

Of course not, the budget is listed as 150 million but it's definitely higher besides the additional anount spent on marketing. I think the rumor of it being closer 200 million is probably true.

LGBT narratives love queer narratives because it's all about identity politics. Mostly just trans people that seek external validation and recognition.

It was more relatable to gays in 90s when their friends would just abandon them over public perceptions. But today people are more aware of parasocial relationships thanks to the internet. And the growing awareness that if your country has conformity laws, you're not a citizen, you're cattle.
