Looks like the DCU is gonna move ahead, Zaslav considers Superman a big success.
They must literally only care about domestic gross

Good will can go a long way as well, it's oddly forward thinking for a CEO but seems like he's banking on public perception for DC films going up so turn out will continue to rise with each project.

Domestic gross is more important, they get a greater share of the total box office from domestic ticket sales. Looking at worldwide numbers to determine if a movie is successful obscures a lot of factors.

You are all brain rotted, what with saying that Jurassic World Rebirth, which barely hit below $580 million worldwide this weekend being 'close to' or 'almost at billion' and totally 'ass blasting' (or words to that effect) DC/WB and Superman. There's over $400M before JWR hits a billion. And if it doubles what it's made international so far, that only takes it up to about $800M.

Yes, it's a success, yes it will gross more in China than Superman. But other than China, the markets where JWR made money, it's not making it at the same level as opening, adding for example, only a few million to the $10M plus it made opening weekend in the UK, and likewise similar situations in Mexico and other markets where it pulled really well opening.

Lilo will likely end up as the biggest film and possibly the only one to cross $1B in 2025, that is not animated (Zootopia) and is not a Avatar sequel - and Avatar will likely make all it's money in 2026, so it won't count as a $1B movie in calendar 2025.

WB cares about worldwide grosses, and probably expects Superman to make more than MoS made overseas and either match or beat what The Batman did, which will be considered a success given that even the movie they are releasing for Apple (F1) is still doing decent business overseas and the competition overseas being brisker.

Some idiots have been saying that people didn't go see Superman overseas because they spent their money seeing JWR - that's idiotic and stupid, since they are buying tickets this weekend to see F1, to still see Lilo and, yes, to see Superman.

From the start, this movie was aimed mostly at the domestic market. It's fucking Superman, he's more directly associated with America than any other hero who doesn't have "America" in his damn name.

Depends on their goals. Going by Gunn and Zaslav's comments, it seems like they always knew $1 billion was never going to be able achievable with how the DC brand was in the toilet. That the movie has a positive reception at all is an achievement considering how the last few DC movies were received. So they're prioritizing goodwill and rebuilding the franchise for the longterm, it'll be fine for Superman to just at least make $500 million when they could get the other momey back via home media, syndication rights, streaming, and merchandise.

It doesnt. All paid advertisement. The only metric you can really rely on these days are toys and costumes sold. Its the only one not compromised since you pay for it, unlike comments which are free.

If by Halloween you see a lot of Hawkgirls and Supermen, yes, it got a good reception. If you dont then it didnt.

By the way McFarlane figures are already on clearance. Meanwhile I shit you not, the BvS wave they did in fucking 2025 sold out. Alfred sold fucking out. 7 years after the movie was released.

I think the big thing that guarantees Gunn's universe surviving after this is his fiscal conservatism when it comes to making movies. Superman's production mostly went off without a hitch. No big emergency reshoots that added another 200 mill to an over-bloated budget, at most just getting the film re-edited after some critique with test screenings. There isnt a "This movie needed to make 800 milly to make its money back" reports for this film coming out, what you see is what you get. There was no drama on set, no in fighting, no reshoots that are actually just CGI animators working overtime, just a solid production in terms of just getting shit done.
With that into account with what anon said here >>149387106 it making 500-600 mill by the end of its cycle will actually be huge for them cause it probably made a higher percentage in profit then the previous films(especially Justice League by god that was a mess)

DC Gunniverse going on ahead?

Will Zaslav say the same when Supergirl flops? Zaslav says the Gunn DC universe will be around for a decade but i don't see it around surviving for the next 3 years. Gunn is giving too many nobodies too much screen time: Peacemaker? Clayface? etc. These are characters nobody will give a fuck about. Gunn thinks because he made guardians popular he can make anyone popular but it does not work like that. Gunn's DC will be DOA in 3 years.

If it has a small enough budget it won't flop

You do realize that the majority of 4chan has historically been ideologically opposite to /co/ right?

Like usual dumbass Gunnshills don't know what they are talking about. Gunn's future DC projects don't look good at all and you can see how Gunn is trying to generate hype for failures like Peacemaker with botted comments and putting the show on network TV. He knows his current work is trash.

Superhero movies with small budgets don't do well. People only watch superhero movies for the spectacle of it. Once people see the DC logo and see the film was made with a shoestring budget it will turn people off.

As someone who's a /co/ main, I don't blame them.

Joker made a billion, though that's the power of the clown. And then the director fucked up the sequel.

If any of you itt are opposed to this new direction for DC movies, don't worry. WB will fuck this up later on.
I expect that Supergirl and Clayface won't make much money, meaning WB will force Batman: The Brave and the Bold into World's Finest and spend like 600 million on that movie when accounting for advertising and reshoots, and then once it underperforms they'll reboot the whole line again.
Screencap this.
