How different would our current industry be if these four shows never existed?
Regardless of what you think of these shows you can’t deny the fact that they’re basically the four horsemen of the apocalypse for western cartoons
>Flapjack, great show, but it was the starting point of the careers for many beanmouth artists in the industry. (the 'Flapjack Family Tree')
>Adventure Time, introduced simplistic artstyles to the industry, which would become the norm cause of how much cheaper they are to animate, also introduced the story-driven format which would cause toon critics to push any episodic shit like Uncle Grandpa to the side cause it wasn’t serialized loreshit.
>Steven Universe, fully semented in beanmouth as the norm, causing networks to still try to replicate the success of it to this day by forcing the beanmouth style onto any new IP. (Wylde Pak had much more unique designs in concept art, seems like the network forced them to become beanmouth)
>Ricky & Morty, caused storylines to become nothing but meta and cynical trash, also probably the reason why most adult cartoons have that cheap Family Guy-like artstyle so fuck em for that.
You can argue that the issue seems to be moreso how stagnant our current industry has become, these shows were all seen as fresh and new things when they first came out but now we’re all tired of it. So it’s time for alternate history discussion, what would our industry be like in a timeline without these shows?
