>No death ever stays permanent
>No one ever actually changes, becomes a good guy, bad guy, merc without going back to status quo
>No event has any lasting impact no matter how over the top the next Crisis/Secret Wars is made
>Probably worst of all, it will never end
At least Pro-Wrestling like WWE has characters retire, new stars, etc. Nothing ever happens in comic books, what's the point in keeping up with them?

Don't read capeshit made after the 00s. Only read good runs from before that and non-capeshit comics.

I've been reading comics for 20 years, and I've never followed ongoings. To this day, most of the runs I've read are self-contained, and most of the runs I've read that weren't I didn't fully enjoy.
What's supposed to be a fantastic mythos is just baggage.

Every time they make an actual change, people like you reject it, demanding to go back to what you're familiar with. You don't want real change, you want the illusion of change.

It isn't but likely not in the way you were thinking.

What happened is that in the early 2000s a cohort of nerds that grew up with the 70s versions of the characters started taking up editorial and creative leadership roles within comics.
Upon doing so they were dropped into the aftermath of the 90s which were a time wherein many radical (and RADICAL) departures from the versions they grew up with happened.
So they began to do a forceful conversion of the properties into something akin to their 70s counterparts which they deemed the Iconic versions of the characters. But you couldn't just move things back to the 70s, you had to make a modern version of the 70s status quo which meant creating a lot of breaks from the 90s continuity and a full modernization to fit the 2000s.
At the time not all of it was bad and a lot of it was better than what came before... Outside of the main books which were utterly ruined besides Green Lantern.

While this was happening a bunch of Cape movie rights got around in the late 90s and separately other nerds from the 70s stated getting these comic book films greenlighted following what was the same process, just in Hollywood.
Meanwhile the modernized 2000s versions of the comics would go on to be the groundwork for the MCU and the like a bit alter on.

TLDR Nerds from the 70s never got over the 90s and have made it everyone's problem ever since.

What they want is a continuation of the general route thigs were going till the 2000s not whatever new ideas the current crop of writers have cooked up.
In other words the fans who complain don't want the properties to be treated as a toybox, they want them to be treated as an ongoing book series.

Billions MUST die but they never will.
The nothing ever happens meme is an antidote to the chaotic news cycle which hints at a total societal breakdown every two weeks.

Nothing ever happens

No one wants change that doesn't make sense, but people want a story that has a beginning, a mid point, and an end, with a progression and conclusion that make sense for the characters and setting they are on.

I don't get why western comics don't do this. If they want to reutilize the character and setting, why not just make an alternative version of the character or story later on?

Another huge problem I think is the lack of consistency, which tends to happen a lot the longer a story goes on.

I honestly think that post-New 52 DC and post-NOW! Marvel needs to be banned on /co/. Everything those companies have put out since then is pure faggotry that any discussion of instantly turns into faggotry.

Switch to reading non capeshit and you'll get the whole story. Most will be okay when it comes to resolving a plot or character development. So okay they're forgettable.
