Just a goon, has nothing in common with the Wildstorm version outside of the name. Their powerset is *technically* the same but it's executed more like Venom instead of her weaponry in the comics.

I'm not that familiar with the Authority but aren't they more just super morally ambiguous heroes? Feels weird to have her as an outright villain working with Luthor, especially when his plan was to start a war just to kill Superman and profit along the way.

Yeah for as much as I love this and this new universe, the lack of focus on actual Superman characters beyond the 'core' ones feels a little odd. I've been wanting to see live-action Metallo, Parasite, and Livewire for awhile now. I'll also say Bizarro and Mxyzptlk as well but I'm holding off on those as I think this movie was teasing them.

That seems edgy since not every conflict is a 'lol both sides' kinda thing but it fits cuz I guess they only fit the stretchiest possible definition of a 'hero'.

I really like that fight where she and Ultraman were teaming up to take down Superman. Even though Engie and Ultraman had fundamentally different super powers, they really felt like they were in sync when fighting Superman. Also, the nanomachines trying to kill Superman was gnarly.

Authority was in the early script, presumeably they were gonna do a Kingdom Come / Superman-vs-the-Elite plot but things were changed, presumably she was a remnant from that draft.

considering the plot, I can see it. Needing her to break into Superman's systems. Or even surviving the frozen north to locate his fortress. But That could also have been done believably by Metallo. Mercy or Mercy and Hope as exiled Amazons could have been a good basis for showing WW's potential in the future and just would have been a better look than Ultraman. They could have been like public security and Metallo, Luthor's black book project. Metallo could have been something he was selling to government's as a metahuman defense system using Metamorpho to supply production of Kryptonite hearts.

I think saving that for a Chapter 2 would work better. Yeah, yeah, this movie proved that you don't necessarily need to set up any characters or teams but I think it'd have more impact if we saw the Authority being a bunch of edgy shits first.

Yep, and pointlessly so, in a clear and obvious lazy plot contrivance because Gunn was too lazy to come up with a more interesting way to (a) hack into the Fortress computer, and even more annoying, (b) essentially a B-tier, C-list plot contrivance to (i) take out the fortress robots and Krypto when you have Superman's clone right fucking there and (ii) be a pointless back-up plot contrivance to kill Superman when, again, an allegedly stronger clone was right fucking there.

Its clear you didn't watch the movie.

She states that she sacrificed her humanity for her mission. She is not a mindless follower of Lex's and wants to disagree with him. In her fight with Superman, he explicitly states that she doesn't have to choose this path. At the end she is knocked out but her fate is left unknown in the cleanup.

The actress signed up for multiple movies. Engineer is clearly going to be one of those Nebula-style antiheroes that finds her redemption.
