I think this is simply bad rephrasing. It's more likely that he needed a mcGuffin for the movie and they went "Oh right, there are the thing on the gauntlet I could easily use" and didn't give more thought than that.

Reminder that before the first Guardian movie, the infinity Gauntlet was just a memorabilia in Odin's vault.
