Considering the bullshit that went to retconning Sins Past, that's probably a good thing. Marvel's solution to being in a hole is dynamite. You might get out of the hole, but in the end you'll just be in a bigger mess than when you started.

Kraven notoriously wasn't originally a Spider-man villain. They just couldn't get him to work and catch on but they knew he was a fucking A-list concept so he kept getting shuffled between books until he got "last chanced" in what was the then traditional Marvel method of trying to salvage a character the office liked, which was to put him on a team and hope for the best.

So the result is he's a character that inherently has legs outside of just being a guy who fucks up Spider-man, but there's a long history of "We know this idea is good but fucked if we know how to get it to work outside of Spider-man consistently."
