He's a king not because it makes him cool black royal batman but because that means he has responsibilities and obligations and Wakanda's societal problems are *his* personal problems that can fuck up his day because he's the guy who has the duty of enforcing laws and can only do so much to change it himself without tyranny, meaning he has to struggle to convince them to change things themselves.
