Honestly, so many of the characters are wildly different in the NTT. One of the big ones is obviously Vic, where he's a much more melancholic and tragic figure.
But yeah, Joey in general was def a character who played a huge part in Raven's development basically being someone who she could really empathise with. A really crucial part of Raven's character in general in the comics is that she genuinely wants to be happy... but doesn't think that she is worthy of it.

Honestly, people told me to read the comics if I wanted to get shipping Beast Boy and Raven, but it's just... eh? He's essentially the brat of the team and wouldn't really make sense for Raven to be attracted to that.
Genuinely, it's wild how Raven works with everyone except Beast Boy in the comics. She even works with Donna more than she does with Beast Boy.
